1388 A.D. - The Lady Amalie de Vere is the sister to the Robert De Vere, Duke of Ireland, Earl of Oxford, and personal confident and lover to Richard II. When trouble arises between the king and Henry of Bolingbroke, the Duke of Ireland flees for his life, leaving his sister behind and at the mercy of his enemies. Bolingbroke confiscates Hedingham Castle, the duke's seat, and Lady Amalie along with it.

Enter Sir Weston de Royans. A powerful, pious knight from a good Yorkshire family, his first introduction to Lady Amalie is a shocking one. But he eventually comes to know a beautiful, intelligent and humorous young woman who is in great torment and harbors a terrible secret. However, Weston harbors secrets of his own, deep family secrets that he has tried to run from for all of these years.

As Weston and Amalie fall deeply in love, the two of them must reconcile themselves to these secrets and find understanding and forgiveness. For four years, they live happily and peacefully. Then, the situation changes and Weston's demons resurface again when his grandfather dies and Weston inherits a baronetcy. Weston and Amalie find a new life with Weston's new title that leads them into danger, vengeance, murder, and a brutal showdown on the tournament fields of Yorkshire where Weston risks his life seeking justice for his beloved Amalie.

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed? Of course, I did. I do see a difference in what the author currently pens and what she penned five years ago. That is to say, Le Veque’s writing style has matured and is more compelling than ever.

I quickly warm to le Veque’s characters. Sir Weston, once he meets Amalie, knows she needs his protection. Yes, even protection from herself.

Lady Amalie de Vere is a woman of strength, left to fend for herself in a world where men use women to dominate and to feel powerful.

Sir Weston is one of those knight’s which still hold honor above all else, and women as sacred.

Lady Amalie is ready to kill herself. Her shame can not be greater. She’s has been used, abused and in one night’s horror stamped for all time. Pregnant with an unwanted child, she is ready to commit the ultimate sin—death by her own hands.

I was pulled into the story. It is sorrowful and tragic in an unbelivable situation, yet believable in its possibility. It is apparent through all the pain and suffering, love is the greatest thing of all.

The narrator, Sean Patrick Hopkins, didn’t power up the story as I usually enjoy with Le Veque’s writing. His cool manner in the voice of Sir Weston, lacked the vitality of my idea of this hero, being too mild mannered where emotion doesn’t show in his tone.

That being said, the voice and pain which is put into the voice of Sir Weston’s mother is completely believable and had my heart ache.

Don’t miss this story from Le Veque. You will weep with the tragedy of the situation and smile with with the results of true love.

To The Lady Born is one of my favorites of Kathryn Le Veque, a compassionate love story. Sean Patrick Hopkins did an excellent job of narration.

Of course we expect nothing less from the pen of the unbeatable Kathryn le Veque. I recommend her work whole heartedly. Enjoy, I certainly did - even the second time I read it (audible this time).

Absolutely electrifying from beginning to end.

A vicious attack and rape by a drunken Commander of the Keep, leaves a lady in a very battered and bruised situation. Thanks to a gallant young knight, who sends an alert to their Leige, and shows her away until help arrives.
However, further dire circumstances occurred from that rape, and the once chaste and virginal young woman, now cannot face the world, with such shame.
Then the brutish Commander is recalled, being replaced by another, a very different man, indeed!
Okay.. that's enough, you need to read for yourself what happens next. It is a grand tale of love and redemption, for our lady and our new gallant Commander.

Abandoned, then brutalized, death is preferable!

I am a long time fan of this author, and have read almost all her novels. This is the first time I have purchased them in audio. I chose this selection because it is one of my favorites. I almost returned it, because the narrator's Lady Amalie voice was highly distracting, almost sounded like an old woman's. I also disliked that Sorrel sounded like Sean Connery, ( love Sean Connery!) Luckily Sorrel's voice was not featured predominately till the ending scenes. However, his narration and other male voices were good. So, since I love this novel so much, I persevered through! I will make a decision on other LeVeque novels based on the audio samples. The author needs a talented, consistent narrator like Davinia Porter to do justice to her writing like Diana Galbadon's Outlander series.

A beautifully written and touching story. Many life lessons can be gleaned from reading this story. Kathryn Le Veque is a master at painting scenes of pain, betrayal, regret as well as those of the trials and tribulations of romance as well as deep abiding love. Excellent book you'll want to read again and again. Sean Patrick Hopkins did a very nice job as narrator. His good guys always sound so sexy! 5 Star s to both Author and Narrator.

It was a good book but it had it's moments. Sometimes authors go into to much detail when telling their story. Sometimes too much dialogue that just seems to fill in to make the book longer. They story was very good but I would have liked the author to advance from one situation to another with minimal dialogue or explanations. Her books always has a hero that sounds like a god in build and stature. Her description of West did not disappoint. Sigh. Regardless of my criticisms it was a good book, just not 5 stars.

Another good book by Kathryn Le Veque

I normally love Kathryn Le Veque books!!! She is one of my favorite authors. But listening to this narration is so difficult!!! My goodness! Where is Brad Wills when you need him?! He’s the best narrator for her books! Contract him alone for them because I can’t even finish this with SeanPatrick Hopkins reading this the way he is!

The Narrator!!!
