Imaginative concept

Although this book seemed to take a bit to get going, once it picked up I appreciated the time spent in the beginning laying contextual foundations and establishing characters and relationships. The very imaginative concept stayed true throughout the entire story - no discrepancies noted. Characters were well developed and the relational interactions were authentic and relatable. I initially struggled with the narrator's voice for the main character-it seemed like she dragged out the last syllable in every word in a monotone voice, which was rather annoying, but either I got used to it or it was a tactic used to further characterize the main female character because I didn't notice it later on.

Great overall

Interesting plot line with some holes, why the frozen wastelands being the major one. Worst part was the narration, I almost couldn’t listen to it. She made the main character sound like a valley girl when she’s supposed to be a warrior.

Amazing!

I absolutely loved this book! It had an amazing story line and leaves you wanting more. Highly recommended!

Keeps your attention

This story keeps your attention from start to finish. I can’t wait to hear what happens in book 2!!

I'm obsessed

The whole book just had me pulled in beginning to end!! I admit I was confused at the beginning, but I see, by the end why Davis started the story the way she did, and I think any reader will too.

Davis weaves a tail of royalty-romance, class-feuds, and espionage. Oh and there's fae. take those factors along with the good writing, and mean I don't really know what else any YA lover could possibly want in a story.

Is it cliche? Yes. Do we know where the ending is going with Bree's decision to tell a certain someone about her certain activities? Also, yes. But that doesn't stop me from wanting book 2 RIGHT. NOW. I'm telling you, this series is addicting, and the narrator has such a pleasant. voice! While her range could have been wider for differentiating different characters, she still managed to give each line, each thought the appropriate emotion. Her voice is a pleasant and low rasp that doesn't grate on the ears. you can easily listen for multiple hours! Those traits go a long way in my book! (yes, pun).

💗💗💗 so good!!!

8 hours of laughing, smiling, cringing, hoping and maybe a little sadness is what I found in this gem of a story! Bri’s life is far from perfect and i totally agree with her - coffee breath IS better than morning breath, especially with a smoking hot surprise royal guest early in the morning.
The narrator had a bit of an over the top angry valley girl way about her, and I couldn’t decide if it was her natural way of talking or her performance. Either way I enjoyed this book on audible and am ready to see what happens next in the story!

Enjoyable Story and Narration

I found this one very enjoyable! Less action packed than I had anticipated, but the characters and they way they were developed were compelling, and the last couple chapters moved at a very quick pace. I can’t wait to read the next one! I think there will be more action there, and plenty of drama as Brie tries to hold her relationships together.

I wasn't sure about the narration at first, but it really grew on me. I think Sarah Puckett was the perfect voice for Brie, she really captured her character. I'm going to be looking out for the next book on audible for sure.

If you enjoyed Aveyard’s Red Queen series, I think you’ll find this in the same vein of tension and intrigue. You can’t help but love these characters, even those that don’t get a lot of page time. The world that the author has created is unique and fascinating. I hope to find out more about how things became the way they are throughout the rest of the series.

Fire and Passion

I had a lot of fun listening to this book and seeing the journey that Brie’s character went on. Her beliefs were pushed and challenged and I enjoyed how she reacted to things that changed how she viewed things. She made mistakes sure but she still did her best to try to make up for those. I loved her and Kai especially when she gave him crap and called him out on the stuff he said. I wanted to know more about the world outside of the dome and look forward to how these two will conquer the hardships ahead. They have a lot of obstacles but I am looking forward to seeing how they get through them and what will happen next for all of the different races. Will there be equality or not? Brie is such a firey and strong character and she and Kai compliment each other so well. I can’t wait for the next book and the rest of their journey.

Unique Take on the Fae!

This book was really intriguing and not your typical fae story. I was a little concerned about the romance aspect part when the first kiss happened so quickly into the story, but this relationship had so many layers to it that it was so fascinating to see it evolve. I loved the “world” that they lived in and am very intrigued to learn more about it in the coming books.

As for the audiobook side: at first, I didn’t think I was going to like the narrator, but after a few minutes she grew on me and it really does fit and brings the story to life

The narrator grew on me

I was worried at first that I wouldn't like the narrator. She seemed almost robotic, However, as the story unfolded she really became more animated and I ended up loving the story. I am anxious to hear what happens in the next story. There are so many secrets that are still left to unfold. Well done!!
