Nobody wants a blank television screen. Three seconds of black is all it takes for viewers to switch the channel and for the TV station to lose a significant share of its audience. For the public, the TV screen represents an opportunity to be entertained, while for TV station operators, it represents the ability to charge for commercials and sponsorships and make a profit.
Michael Hudson Sr.'s second book focuses on Jerry, a television engineer living in the 1980s who must deal with the loss of his friend, Frank, and help show the ropes to Frank's replacement, Jennifer. Along the way he introduces listeners to the serious concerns, as well as the antics involved in keeping a TV channel continuously broadcasting with entertaining and profitable programs.
Taking place in the fictional city of Serra, California, “Three Seconds of Black” provides light-hearted insights into the unpredictable world of television.
