Acerca de esta escucha

Picking up right where he left off, Paul Carter pulls out more tall tales of a mad, bad and dangerous life in the international oil trade. Starting with action and mayhem galore This is Not a Drill sets an unrelenting pace that just doesn't let up, as Paul almost drowns when the Russian rig he's working on begins to capsize; is reunited with his dad - another adrenaline junkie; gets married; hangs out with his rig pig buddies in exotic locations; and spends a couple of interesting weeks in Afghanistan...©2007 Paul Carter. Reseñas de la Crítica

"Get ready for loosely connected, bawdy stories about the author and his outrageous friends. Some tales come from the oil rigs Carter worked on, but most take place in bars, where misogynistic alpha males drown themselves in a sea of liquor. How about the one where a bloke with a glass eye pops it into someone's beer, and the crowd waits until the victim quaffs the last ounce to see it staring at him from the bottom of his glass? Carter narrates the audiobook in his working-class Australian accent, loaded with the national vocabulary of 'mates', 'queuing', 'boiled sweets', and 'rubbing one out' (think gas). His rapid narrative style leaves the listener little time to ponder the novel metaphors, similes, and analogies." (AudioFile Magazine)

Sheer brilliance

I don’t tend to write full reviews. I don’t have the inclination to wax lyrical about the book I have just listened to, because I inevitably have several in the waiting list awaiting consumption, but this (and it’s predecessor) has just enchanted me. I nearly crashed my car listening to book one - take this review as my glowing recommendation for both books - and have stayed up long past my body’s demands for sleep to complete this book.
I love the dark humour in the midst of dangerous locations coupled with the sprinkled reminder of human decency and tenacity. I am pretty sure that Paul’s digestive tract deserves some sort of medal by now!

If you’ve been weighing up this book, this author, and you’ve found yourself at this review. Trust me - download now! But make sure you clear your diary out first. You won’t be doing much for a few hours.

I want to party with this guy!

Wildly raunchy and unbelievable tales of a globetrotting life working on an oil drill rig made believable by the master story telling skills of Paul Carter. I loved every minute of it.

International travel and adventure

Many of the stories Carter shares are not his own but those of other people, but are (for the most part) interesting or at least entertaining. The subject matter, comprising everything from oil drilling to journalism in Afghanistan, make for great airport listening, but be forewarned that a couple of accounts of his/other people's "exploits" cross the line of tastefulness. In any case, Audible should considering carrying his first book (this one is a sequel).

The lies are too obvious

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

After reading Paul's first book and enjoying that I thought I'd give this one a go, however it's rubbish! the lies in the story are too obvious and Paul's prose just becomes very boring.
There is no memorable moments in this book, no funny moments or story's just a long boring oil field tale.

I worked with Paul on the job in Russia (Sedco 600 and Transocean Legend) and worked with Ambo as recently as six months ago. Just skip this book it's not worth the time to read it.

Has This is Not a Drill turned you off from other books in this genre?
