Acerca de esta escucha

Margaret Starbird's theological beliefs were profoundly shaken when she read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, a book that dared to suggest that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalen and that their descendants carried on his holy bloodline in Western Europe. Shocked by such heresy, this Roman Catholic scholar set out to refute it but instead found new and compelling evidence for the existence of the bride of Jesus - the same enigmatic woman who anointed him with precious unguent from her "alabaster jar".

In this provocative book, Starbird draws her conclusions from an extensive study of history, heraldry, symbolism, medieval art, mythology, psychology, and the Bible itself. The Woman with the Alabaster Jar is a quest for the forgotten feminine - in the hope that its return will help restore a healthy balance to planet Earth.

Full of History

I love history, and this references historical events and issues making a decisive impact. I’m planning to listen again to absorb everything.

Fascinating and Inspiring

I love the premise and bringing in all of the signs and symbols, art and stories from throughout the centuries and cultures was riveting.

Good book, annoying narration

I’m enjoying this book and appreciate the truth of history being revealed. However I’m having a hard time with the narration. The flighty tone of the reading is really irritating.

This book has not lost its significance in the 30 years since publication.

The research shared in this book is awe inspiring. I will need to listen to it again and again to get all the rich content committed to memory because I want to be able to share this information w others.

Irritating sing-songy narration that

actually made it harder to follow the already dense and somewhat scholarly style of writing. Not a good thing, especially for something that (even though the author claims to have written “in the vernacular”) was fairly dry at times and so reference-heavy it made me realize some books probably are better suited for reading than listening. I found the constant Bible verse referencing particularly distracting, though again, probably necessary for serious students and I was eventually able to tune it out well enough... less so the affected mannerisms of the narrator. That said, the ideas presented were so compelling (makes Da Vinci Code look like a comic book by comparison), and so persuasively argued and meticulously researched that in the end I’m glad I stuck it out. In fact, grateful as I am for the Audible version as a primer, now I really want the print book in order to go back and digest some of the details that frankly flew by too fast from listening alone. All in all, recommend even with all the irritations. Great food for thought and more timely than ever for the open-minded.

Full circle

The reason I loved listening to the book is the gender of the person writing it; please alow me to retort. I've been studying this because of a similar book I've read. Not the book paraphrased in the Preface. The book I read is Fiction. After reading the book, I delved into theology. My background is Southern Baptist/Post Jim Crowe. I ran as fast as I could and became extremely successful. I was reading the aforementioned book and couldn't put it down. Fastest book yhat I've ever read. A bold statement. This caused me to begin research. This book is one I used researching the topic. I love this book because my wife is more receptive to this book. Although she has read the other's. _Luke
