What's this? Halloween in February? Fantastic!

Hey! What a great little distraction from the doldrums of a somewhat dreary time of year. Laird Barron continues to impress with a new novella in his Isaiah Coleridge series. It's got Horror. It's got Science Fiction. It's got action. It's got wit and geeky references to everything from The Classics to The Terminator. And let's not forget about a metric ton of crime noir style. Also, it evokes a sense of creepy, trippy fun and wackiness that kind of reminds me of watching Scooby-Doo while I had a fever as a young kid.
Also, also, William DeMerrit Continues to do the best tough guy besides Ray Porter narrating Joe Ledger. Pitch perfect performance!
Finally, the first book I reviewed here on Audible was, "Blood Standard," the first in this series. I gave it 3 stars and a strong written recommendation citing a LOT of potential. Welp... that potential was reached and the genre of mere crime fiction was surpassed. Easily. Five stars the rest of the way! This is a fantastic series. And this is a great addition to it! I would love to say it's too short but it's really just right. I definitely want more, though!

I love Laird Barron, this is a great edition to the series and very cosmic horror vibes. The narrator is great as usual. Highly recommend.

Great Cosmic Horror Crime Yarn

Laird Barron brings us another terrific story about Isaiah Coleridge and company. Great mash up of cosmic horror and pulp noir with a sprinkling of humor and fun music industry anecdotes this time around. William DeMeritt continues to be the perfect narrator for the series. It's a novella, so the short length is what it is. Would I have loved for it to be longer? Of course! But the story feels full, epic, and unrushed, so works as an incredible treat and small dip back into this world.
