Hugh MacLennan takes the lister into the lives of his three characters and back into the world of Montreal in the thirties, when politics could send an idealist across the world to Spain, France, Auschwitz, Russia, and China before his return home.

Excellent performance, interesting story

I enjoyed this up to about the last 2 hours or so. The performance was great. The last bit of the story has a horrible, unbelievable “man writing women” moment that ruined all the character development and tone of the book. That combined with the sloppy use of religion to resolve everything makes this something I can not recommend.
