Acerca de esta escucha

Blades hidden in the dark lose none of their edge....

Alesh and his friends have evaded the Broken and his warriors, fleeing into tunnels hidden deep in the earth. They travel to Peralest, a city where they hope to find help, to find sanctuary. But when night falls and the shadows caper, hopes are snuffed out as easily as a candle flame. Betrayed and hunted, Alesh and his companions must learn how to use the magic the gods have blessed them with if they’re to have any chance of survival.

But not all magic is good, and not all blessings are kind. Kale Leandrian hides away in his castle chambers, disguising himself so others might not see the monster he has become. But no disguise can conceal the unnatural hunger or thirst for violence growing inside him. A hunger that won’t be stayed. A thirst that must be sated.

In Valeria, Tesharna’s soldiers comb the streets for any who might threaten her secret desires. She also wears a mask, one of confidence and loyalty to Amedan. But beneath that mask, darkness seethes, a darkness even she does not fully comprehend, for the greatest of disguises hide the truth even from those who wear them.

Night comes. The Darkness rises, and in its rising no mortal will be safe. In its rising even gods will die.

Jacob Pepper has a way of drawing you into a story. It keeps you coming back to find out what will happen next. The characters are well developed. This series is my favorite by Mr. Peppers. I found myself relating to Alesh’s struggles. Great read.

This is a fun listen after reading the book as well. Derek does a nice job with the characters and keeps a good pace. He helps in telling this story and filling in their voices in my head. Another great listen in this series. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in the series! There is good development in some of the characters and how they are growing into their own during this book. I am sure it will get even better!

Great ending! Great development along the way!

I really enjoy this series. Each book keeps building the story and we learn more about the characters. Can’t wait for the next installment!

Keeps getting better and better....

First of all, I love Derek Perkins' performances. Full stop. The Nightfall Wars? Not so much.

I think Jacob Peppers is very creative, actually, and has so many good ideas. What he lacks, however, is a competent editor/critic who will help him channel that creativity into a tight story with consistent, believable, three-dimensional characters. Mr. Peppers twists his plot lines into knots to create ridiculous situations. For example, when Alesh and Catherine are "forced" to share a bedroom, the scene was completely silly and contrived. The participating characters looked like a pack of vacuous ninnies. A good editor would have sent Mr. Peppers back to the drawing board to come up with some other way for the two protagonists to torture themselves and each other with self-doubt and misunderstood feelings.

A good editor would have pointed out the many, many, MANY grammatical errors, particularly those related to verb tenses. Writing is Mr. Peppers' business and he should be able to do so without grammatical gaffes.

Good editing would also have saved Mr. Peppers' readers/listeners from the characters' endless and often pointless dialogues and inner monologues, many of which occurred during life-threatening situations. You know, like when a monster is getting ready to bite their head off. These occurrences were not only ill-timed, but did nothing to move the story forward. The characters were usually just regurgitating past thoughts, feelings, doubts, memories, dreams, conversations, shopping lists, the periodic table of elements, Hamlet's soliloquy...

My inner monologue? "These morons are the chosen of the gods? Their world is doomed."

So <yawn> tedious

This one was more like the first book. The second was better, so I was hopeful, but this third seemed to revert back to the things I didn't like about the first. There's just so much monologuing, especially by all the antagonists.

More Like the First

the ending was nice, but the rest was repetitive. 80% of the book was run away or have sex
