Acerca de esta escucha

At last, the unflinching and unforgettable memoir of music and life from the much-loved Australian legend. The Voice, in his own voice.

Growing up in London and Melbourne, music was always part of John Farnham's world. But the young John never dreamed of what was to come. Pop stardom in the 1960s. The release of Whispering Jack, the critically acclaimed and highest-selling Australian album of all time. A decades-long touring career. Twenty-one ARIA awards. Australian of the Year. The list of accolades and achievements is long - so, at first glance, the John Farnham story is one filled with remarkable highs.

It is, however, so much more than that. It is the story of the resilience John found as his stellar career stalled, record companies turned their backs, and he faced financial ruin. John has never shown how hard he fell and how difficult it was to stay true to himself in an industry that can be ruthless. It is the story of family, friendship and finding your voice.

Throughout a lifetime filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, John has remained steadfast, never losing his unique musical talent, creative strength nor his powerful ability to make human connections through his music. After his devastating cancer diagnosis and far too many goodbyes, John is now telling his story, his way.

The Voice Inside is like sitting down with an old friend sharing stories that are both deeply personal and wildly entertaining. Written alongside award-winning filmmaker Poppy Stockell, this is a captivating and powerfully honest insight into the man whose music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives.

Beautiful, humble, heartbreaking and joyful

I was always a fan of his music. Now I am definitely a fan of the man himself. His humility and resilience both brings you to tears and makes you laugh. I won’t forget this book easily.

Brilliant

Read by John Farnham himself is the highlight and reason to listen to this one. Will have you smiling and feeling each beat along with him. Just as John is so good at doing.

The Voice Inside unfortunately can't rescue itself from the Voice Outside

What stands out the most is the fact that John is narrating this through a mouth that he can barely open and it is very distracting in a negative way. You will have to rewind numerous times because very often, he just can't put syllables together where it makes sense and it sounds like gibberish because he can barely open his mouth. It's hard to enjoy and really getting engaged in the story when you're so distracted and the focus is so taken away from the story because it's just so difficult to listen to him talk. It makes Robert Kennedy sound smooth in comparison. It would have made a lot more sense for them to have a good narrator but then on the other hand it wouldn't have been as genuine because John's vulnerability does give the book a genuine performance that it would not have had with someone other than John reading. But my goodness I wish they would have waited 6 months or a year until he's fully rehabbed his mouth and can fully formulate and speak words. I pre-ordered this title a couple of months ago and I live in America and I paid $71 after shipping for the book, the hardcover to be delivered to my house as well. I would suggest that you buy the hardcover and imagine John speaking voice in your own head and it will be much more enjoyable than this audiobook.
