Hildie, which was short for Hildegard, watched in shock when the auction for mail order brides was over and she was the last one standing who hadn't been picked. The only thing wrong with her is she was a tad bit taller than the other girls; well maybe quite a bit taller if she were being truthful. She had always been told she had a pretty face and figure; however, she guessed no man wanted to climb a ladder to talk to her.

The orphanage where she had been living was now closed and she was all on her own with no money and she was wearing the only clothes she had. Panic began to sweep through her as she tried to keep her wits about her while trying to figure out what she was going to do. Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by a wagon traveling at a high rate of speed toward her. If she didn't move, she would be run over, and she'd have more trouble than she already had!

Ben Woodman needed a wife and was running late for the mail order bride auction. As he was leaving to come to the auction, his mare Bessy went into labor. He needed the new colt or filly and had to stay until the new birth was completed. He tried to clean up as best as he could and was now in the process of racing into town when he nearly ran over the tallest woman he had ever seen!

Will fate and desperation bring Hildie and Ben together...or will they continue their search for love and companionship? You won't want to miss this new mail order bride adventure from Christy Webb as it proves to be one of her best. Happy Reading!

I would enjoy this as a longer story.

Well written short story. I would enjoy a full novel that follows this couple past marrige. I do not car for the auto generated reading though. A living preformer reader is always preferable. If I had noticed before begining that the reader was AI before begining. I would have skipped it. Writter has good potentiala as novelist otherwise.

I loved the difference of this heroine as compared to some others. . I would really enjoy another story about this unlucky bride. I think Harlequin could make a wonderful movie about this story. I loved it!!!

Beautiful story!

First of all this is my favorite author. I seriously enjoy listening on my commute. I loved this story and bonus points it has other books with it! Starting number two next. Can’t wait to listen to all of them. Super excited that there is more to come.

I listened to this audiobook again and it seems that Amazon has improved the listening experience. Regardless, I love this story. I can't imagine what the unwanted bride must have gone through and how terrified she must have been when no one wanted her at the mail order bride auction. Not only is the story heartwarming and enjoyable, but it also teaches the fact that love does come in all shapes and sizes. This is a must read.

Irritating monotone artificial voice.

I barely got through chapter 2. Surely they can recruit readers for book on tape?

Have no idea about the story because the computer voice was so horrible I deleted it from my library

There is no emotion in an artificial voice. The story line was flat and I was not able to connect with the two people in it.
