Wireless connectivity is an amazing and empowering technology. It allows people to access data and be in touch with others in a way which was impossible until recently. Whether we are are accomplishing financial transactions, reading books, listening to podcasts, or listing merchandise for e-commerce, wireless connectivity is a critical link in nearly all of our usage of the internet. For too many people, wireless broadband is a limiting and frustrating link which does not perform well enough, because the radio signals are too far and weak. This book offers ways to enjoy Wi-Fi signals and connect over longer distances.
Extend your Wi-Fi distance and enjoy better broadband with the antenna projects and smart usage tips in this book. It lays out how to build Wi-Fi parabolic prime and linear focus antennas, which the author has used, to have long distance Wi-Fi connections. Not only are large dish antennas covered, but less cumbersome Wi-Fi yagi and helical antennas are included, which can reach access points far across your neighborhood and beyond. The book gives step by step examples for modifying Wi-Fi dongles and connecting them to external antennas.
Many other guides advocate simply using a bigger antenna on a USB Wi-Fi dongle. In this book, the author suggests using the new breed of single board computers to transform the Wi-Fi into an ethernet link. These can be run for longer distances, from one's rooftop down to the basement or other places where Wi-Fi could not reach.
The essence of this book is antenna building. It talks about the various kinds of antennas, how they can help extend Wi-Fi speed and distance, and how to build them with typical workshop tools. If you can measure, cut, work with screws and bolts, and solder, then you can build Wi-Fi antennas. Whether you are using classic 2.6 GHz wireless networking or the newer 5 or 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6, there are things you can do to assure you are getting maximum range and data throughput.
