When June Havershaw's ranch foreman finds the gravely wounded stranger in an abandoned line cabin he brings him to the Star Valley Ranch, where she nurses him back to health. He says little of his past and she senses he is running from something. She is unsure of this stranger, but her young daughter likes to ride on his shoulders and has taken to calling him "Daddy." When a powerful, land-hungry rancher tries to drive June from her beloved ranch the stranger fearlessly steps forward to protect her and her ranch. The past suddenly catches up with this stranger, when he learns that his dying grandmother wants to see him before she dies.
