Thanks to her blog, Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women, Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah has spent decades talking openly and intimately to African women around the world about sex. For this book, she spoke to more than 30 African women across the globe while chronicling her own journey toward sexual freedom.

We meet Yami, a pansexual Canadian of Malawian heritage, who describes negotiating the line between family dynamics and sexuality. There’s Esther, a cisgendered hetero woman studying in America, by way of Cameroon and Kenya, who talks of how a childhood rape has made her rebellious and estranged from her missionary parents. And Tsitsi, an HIV-positive Zimbabwean woman who is raising a healthy, HIV-free baby.

Across a queer community in Egypt, polyamorous life in Senegal, and a reflection on the intersection of religion and pleasure in Cameroon, Sekyiamah explores the many layers of love and desire, its expression, and how it forms who we are.

In this confessional book, women control their own bodies and pleasure and assert their sexual power. A wonderful book about sex and life!

I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting getting a glimpse into the lives of African women around the world. It was a beautifully expansive exploration of women whose lived experiences were both similar to and different from my own.

One of my Favorite books Ever

This was phenomenal. As a black woman, I felt these stories. I heard them and I hold space for all of those women as they shared their stories. Black women are just AMAZING. I saw myself in some of these stories. I learned of new experiences. This is going to be a book that I share everywhere

A must listen

These stories will make you laugh, cry, want to turn it off and even reminisce. This is so wonderfully read and the lives experiences are so real.

It was also educational and makes me hope for a better tomorrow where every woman comes to know her own body without having to experience physical, mental or spiritual pain.

I loved it it was relatable as an African woman, thanks for this great piece
