The strength of a women goes beyond comprehension when love is at play. The weakness of some men makes me wonder why the heart is such a strong muscle

Enjoyed the story

Really enjoyed the plot twists in the storyline. I can usually figure them out too soon, but there was one that I didn’t expect. Narrator was really good too.

Touching novel of historical fiction.

Warm and interesting story of the 1930's south. Great characterization. Although I found this book a very good read, I feel the story a bit too long with unnecessary conversation and detail.

Beautiful & heartbreaking

This is a story that draws you in. The character of Adele is rich and full of depth. Normally I prefer present day parts of stories, but the telling of Adele’s life in her own “voice” is by far the best here. Definitely worth the read!!

This author has never failed to provide a completely originally story and so many unexpected plot twists, her stories are captivating! And the narration is perfect!

It was written with vivid descriptions that made you feel a part of the story.

This book will stay with you long after you've come to the end.

I listened to the audiobook. The voice of the narrator was perfect for the voices of the women living in tobacco country on a North Carolina plantation in the post depression South. The characters are fully developed human beings whose interactions through the generations are beautiful, loving, tragic, and ultimately the foundation on which four generations are bound and healed. It is a poignant story as much about race in the changing South as the family living during those changes. Resilience, love, sacrifice, facing the horrific moments of the past, with it's ultimate understanding, gratitude, and integration of four generations of Peak Plantation women make for a story impossible to put down. For two days I lived in this book unable to think of anything except the inhabitants of Peak Plantation.
