Read after reading the series
You should not read this short story before reading the Broken Empire series. It does not make much sense without the background and context of the characters involved.
This is a short story set in the Broken Empire. The writing is excellent. I listened to the audiobook, and the narration is outstanding. James Clamp, who narrated the Broken Empire series, was okay, but Tim Gerard Reynolds is exceptional and demonstrates how an outstanding narrator can improve a read.

Good but short. would have been better if it was at least a couple or a few short stories. that being said I did like hearing a little about brother Sim. I would like to hear a few more stories about some of the other brothers.

Short, concise and brilliant.
Atmospheric, unusual little tale. The world of The Broken Empire I always imagine to be like something out of the Diablo pc games and the descriptions here brought it to life in that way again. The narrator was great and I hope that this storyline could be expanded on and explored more in the future. 5 stars: *****.
