Acerca de esta escucha

In this highly anticipated new novel, Diana Gabaldon brings back one of her most compelling characters: the unforgettable Lord John Grey - soldier, gentleman, and no mean hand with a blade. Set in the heart of the 18th century, Lord John's world is one of mystery and menace. Diana Gabaldon brilliantly weaves together the strands of Lord John's secret and public lives.

Capturing the lonely, tormented, and courageous career of a man who fights for his crown, his honor, and his own secrets, Diana Gabaldon delivers breathtaking human drama, proving once again that she can bring history to life in a way few novelists ever have.

A Tease for Outlander Series.

I liked this well enough though I'm a confirmed Davina Porter fan and would have given it a 5 had she narrated. She is Jamie to me. Otherwise, the narrators were okay but I think they would've been fine to have 1....heck, Davina does all characters great, what's the point of 2?...hmmmmm.....

It was the perfect length.....though my perfect length for Outlander sequels is the 35-40 hrs. ...but for LJ, this was perfect

Not bad but I missed the other narrator

I thought the different narrators somewhat distracting switching back and forth with no clear reason. And I missed Davina Porter as she does such a wonderful job of bringing these tales to life.

Nice insight to fill in some of the blanks

I enjoyed filling in some of the blanks as to the relationship between Jamie and Lord John. It didn't quite provide as much as others seemed to suggest it would though. The performance was adequate but I'm just too accustomed to the regular reader's voice for these characters now.

Satisfying to the spirit of "outlander"

Filled in wonderful blanks from "Outlander." And learned much of Lord John. Loved it tremendously!

Rick Holmes...

Jeff Woodman should have been the only narrator, full stop. The sections by Rick Holmes were not only initially jarring with his nasal and several decibels louder intro, but cringeworthy version of Jamie, just sub par to what we have all been accustomed to with Audible Narrators for Diana Gabaldon works. Davina Porter set the bar at such a level of familiarity with the characters over HUNDREDS of hours to be set in stone.. Jeff Woodman slid in gracefully and was a welcome addition with the John Grey works. Rick just belly flopped and slammed his face on concrete. I'm not trying to be cruel, just attempting to put into words the caliber and level of my distaste. I understand that it was intended to differentiate the separate points of view between Jamie and John... but ..really? Who greenlit this and thought it was a good idea? Please understand I'm not attacking Mr. Holmes as a narrator, his accents and dialects are good, they just stray so far from what has already been done wonderfully by Davina and miraculously by Woodman after the fact. In closing, I listened to it in its entirety and it wasnt too much, for me at least, to request a refund and read it myself. but it stuck in my craw for sure. Listen for Woodman, and suffer through Holmes, Gabaldon is always worth it. Now, let's get to the BEES!!

Nice compliment to Voyager....

Diana Gabaldon is just a truly OUTSTANDING writer. I may be one of the only people who is NOT a big fan of Lord John Grey, BUT I felt like I HAD to listen to this particular book so I could get a better understanding of Jamie and his relationship.

Halfway through Voyager (Outlander series) I stopped and got this book and listened. Claire is not IN the book, but YES she is because Jamie can't forget her.

It cleared up some issues I wondered about and was well worth the listen. I started back up with Voyager and was glad to have the insight.

Is it a MUST....NO. But I did need the additional info.

The story is a great adventure with great characters and dialogue.

Narrator hates main character

Would you listen to The Scottish Prisoner again? Why?

Yes, it's a great story despite the narrator making Jamie Frasier sound like a twit. The almost falsetto voice along with an accent as far from the Scottish highlands as it is possible to get made listening hard. Since the other voices were good I can only assume the narrator disliked Jamie and could not be bothered to try to do a good voice. Really too bad...buy it and listen, it's good. And try to imagine a better voice from other renditions

Would you be willing to try another one of Jeff Woodman and Rick Holmes ’s performances?

Not if a Scottish accent is needed

The Story Is What Matters

If you could sum up The Scottish Prisoner in three words, what would they be?

I enjoyed this story as I have all of Diana Gabaldon's work.

What did you like best about this story?

This tale was woven in and around the Outlander series perfectly. The story stands alone but also fills in some of the time that Jamie Fraser spent as a paroled Scottish prisoner under the care of Lord John Grey.

Any additional comments?

While I enjoy the narration of the Outlander series as performed by Davina Porter, I was not put off in the least by the performances of Jeff Woodman or Rick Holmes. Don't let the rather harsh reviews from other readers scare you away from this book. After all, the story is what matters.

Amazing Book in an Exceptional Series!

The Outlander series has captured my attention like no other. It is intriguing, engaging, and well written. It is so easy to let go and see characters play out their stories in my mind. Davina Porter is the perfect narrator for this rich tapestry. Her melodious voice and insightful interpretations of the characters leads to an immersive listening experience. Perfection! “AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY”
