The Saleswoman And The Househusband is a semi-autobiographical novel. Lisa and Stuart lose their jobs in Boston and after a year become desperate. Lisa is forced to take a bizarre job selling engines to Amish farmers in Pennsylvania. Her art history degree won't help her there, in the Old World. How will her modern family adapt? Stuart and their two kids follow Lisa down to live in a stone hut in the middle of the woods. Old and new collide.. But, what if Lisa can't handle her, "misogynist minefield of a job", and has to quit? How would they sell the rural hut? What would they do for jobs and money, now that their resumes are even more useless? Sure enough, a crisis erupts that forces them to confront all these issues at once.
