Informative But Dull - Narration Style Bad

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The Sack of Rome ought to be a topic of some rugged interest. The book is informative if not very engaging. The narrator sounds like an 8th grade girl standing up in front of the class to read. So bad it is distracting. And that's bad because notwithstanding an interesting story the text is a bit dull.
