Acerca de esta escucha

Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her 30s and saw her best friends, Stephanie and Nicola, settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla as the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the back burner. But she finds herself wavering the moment she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram's cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. With a steely gaze and a successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, Lachlan is the kind of man who makes her want to throw her vow right out the window.

It isn't until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes that there is so much more to this brooding macho man than meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can't stay in America forever. Now Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.

I would suggest reading rather than listening.

I have gotten used to these quirky narrators. Yes...their accents are...original. But I love this series.
Story was strong. Shone through the narration. Worth the read!

More Good than Bad and So Worth It

Would you consider the audio edition of The Play to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version so no comment

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Play?

Lachland's breakdown.. it was painful... I wasn't sure how they would come back from it

Would you listen to another book narrated by Antony Ferguson and Jillian Macie ?

IDK... The both have good qualities when it comes to reading in their own gender but when they read the others gender it's a problem.

Antony's Scottish dialect was excellent but his female, American accent was horrendous. One would think the female characters are all from the south instead of San Francisco.

Jillian like Antony did her gender proud but her male voices was irritating and her Scottish dialect HORRIBLE.

Overall that's my only complaint about these two.

Any additional comments?

I didn't read the other books in this series and I have to say that her best friends and their men didn't make me want to read the other books. While I get that they are supposed to be her besties I didn't get that vibe for most of the book regardless of the fact that it was said a million times. The girls, while they had her bad (somewhat), they didn't seem that close to Kaila,.. she seemed like a real outcast with that group and I didn't like that at all. It didn't make me want to read the other books.

Also, the author used a few terms like flat, mates, university even though it was the American characters speaking and they were talking abut SF. That was confusing!

Great story.

I loved all the other books in this series and I wouldn't say that I didn't enjoy this one but it had to grow on me a bit before I started loving it. At the end I can honestly say I absolutely enjoyed every word. Of course I'm a huge fan of Ms Halle. Her books are always brilliant. This story takes a look at the devastating effects of substance abuse and neglect. About the narration. Antony Ferguson was wonderful. If he was the solo reader, I would have been ecstatic. Jillian Macie was a bit of a disappointment in the sense that she should NOT try doing a Scottish accent. It sounded more like the hero was a Mexican. Sorry, but I hated it. Apart from that, I really enjoyed it.

her scottish sounds like a distorted Russian

For the most part it was not bad her narration is lack luster his is impeccable as always. Her Scottish sounded like a Russian who's been raised by Italians chewing on cotton balls.

Beautiful story, horrible voices

This story is so beautiful and so worth the journey. But the voices are horrible!Antony Ferguson has done the male voices for all the books in this series and his female voice has bugged me (southern accents for women from San Francisco). But Jillian Macie's Scottish accent almost ruined the story for me. It was some strange combination of Russian and maybe Italian. Half way through the story I was too involved in the plot to get too upset, but if I had attempted this as the first in the series I would have quit.

Really?

Book was good, until the author decided it would be a good idea to romanticize the idea of being with an addict/ alcoholic. Not impressed, don't think I'll be reading anymore of her books. The book before this in this series sucks too.

Pretty decent story

So I get that people might think bringing up addicts of any kind is say awful but what I can say is this I've read a few books that bring it in and also been through my own type of things that aren

Good story

It was drawn out much longer than needed. A lot of inner monologue that didn’t add to the storyline. IMO Good. Not 5 star Great.

Love the story hated the narrator

Great story line a few parts dragged on but not bad. The hard part was listening to it. The narrator could not do a Scottish accent more like Spanish.

Nice

I really am a sucker for love stories when the characters are both stubborn and lonely but don't realize it until they meet each other. I enjoyed listening to this story.
