Robert Macfarlane is the author of the prize-winning Mountains of the Mind and The Wild Places, both of which were New York Times Notable Books. Beautiful observations

This is a really beautiful work of observation and writing. It requires some attention and patience from the listener, which I like. Scenes and thoughts and observations are worked out over time, and the words, imagery and characters are worth careful notice.

Robin Sachs, narrator, has a soothing and very pleasant voice. He seems a natural fit for this book, which is all about appreciation for the natural, the slow, the thoughtful.

Bonus: It's also perfect for bed-time. The narration is not monotone, or boring, but there are also not drastic changes in volume, and there is certainly nothing suspenseful about the tales told. It's interesting, which it has to be to keep my mind from wandering to unpleasant things, but soothing at the same time.

It was very informative about walking, it's history, and the benefits of peace and meditation.

Very well written. The referrals to the different authors and poets are interesting if you care to explore. I listened to the book on a 32hr. train trip. I especially enjoyed the part about sailing. I used to live and sail on a boat for many years. I plan to explore more books by the same author. The narrator did an excellent job. Thank you Audible, JK

Profoundly engaging

This is a profoundly engaging and important work. The narration is flawless and the command of Accents is astonishing —highly recommend it!

Well Written Meditation

Loved the quiet flow of this book. Well read by Sachs. May drone here and there but it is also full of poignant moments. A lot of geography I had never heard of so it spurred on plenty of side research too.
