A Good Morning America Buzz Pick

A Betches Book to Add to Your Fall Reading List

A PureWow Book We Can't Wait to Read in September

A Skimm Reads Pick

A hilarious, heartfelt story about four lifelong friends determined to change their lives, come hell (terrible bosses, ex-husbands living next door) or high water (laundry...so much laundry) from the acclaimed author of Last Summer at the Golden Hotel.

Melissa Levin, Priya Chowdhury, Tara Taylor, and Suki Hammer were going places when they graduated high school in 1997. Their yearbook superlatives were Most Likely to Win the White House, Cure Cancer, Open a Michelin-Starred Restaurant, and Join the Forbes 400, respectively. Fast forward twenty-five years and nothing has gone according to plan.

Reunited at their reunion, the women rethink their younger selves. Is it too late to make their dreams come true? Fueled by nostalgia and one too many drinks, they form a pact to push through their middle-aged angst to bring their youthful aspirations to fruition, dubbing themselves the “Most Likely Girls.”

Through the ensuing highs and lows, they are reminded of the enduring bonds of friendship, the ways our childhood dreams both sustain and surprise us—and why it’s never a good idea to peak too early.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Get ready to be in your feelings—especially if you read this from your childhood bedroom while home for the holidays. It follows four washed-up 40-somethings attending their high school reunion. As they look back at their yearbook superlatives and are reminded of their old hopes and dreams, they collectively decide to jump-start their lives and become the people their high school selves would be proud of. Aww."—The Skimm

"Perfect for fans of Emily Henry and Gail Honeyman, The Most Likely Club is a celebration of embracing all the ways your life derails—and the friends who help you along the way."—PureWow

“Endearing and immensely readable, Elyssa's Friedland's The Most Likely Club is an ode to female friendship, second chances, and the people who are 'Most Likely' to love us the most.”—Laura Dave, #1 New York Times bestseller of The Last Thing He Told Me

Fun read

I was looking for a fun, easy, uplifting read. That's what this book was. The characters were relatable. By the time the book was over I felt like a part of their group of friends.

slooooowwwwwww

I usually like thrillers or something with an edge and this book definitely does not deliver. Typical story about typical girls...boring

Meh

I graduated HS in 1999, so I enjoyed the references, but there was just something missing. Not the same spark as Golden Hotel.

Fun and easy

This was a fun and quick read. Predictable but sometimes that’s what you need. Characters were relatable.

same Ole stuff

I enjoyed the story however these stories are all starting to sound the same. four college friends, four high school friends always going back for a reunion and life has passed them by or deep rooted secrets and resentments have surfaced or four PTA mom friends where all their kids go to school together. it's always that one friend who's divorced and has to start over or the friend who from the outside looking in is perfect but husband has an affair or the perfect friend is having a nervous breakdown. good story but same Ole stuff. I can think of at least 3 other books I have read this year with the same basic "four friends" story line.

Cute story but distracting anachronisms

This story was lighthearted and fun, but very predictable. It was basically The Babysitters Club for adults. My biggest issue was that the book was focused on the graduating class of 1997, but there were many references to things and events that happened after the people in the book would have already graduated. For example, without spoiling anything, there’s a reference to a time capsule in which the senior year students placed the soundtrack to Titanic. That movie came out in December of 1997. Those girls were already freshman in college when that movie came out. Plus, what high school students were listening to Celine Dion?!? None. That soundtrack would have been more for middle aged moms.
There’s a reference to a cell phone that didn’t come out until 1999. There are other examples regarding Princess Diana and foods that didn’t come out until 1998. As someone who actually graduated in 1997, it was annoying. It felt like the author used research from some facebook algorithm about the 90s to try to mesh together as many 90s references as possible without caring whether or not they made sense.

For all those worried about their own school reunion…

Let me first say, this narrator sounds insanely similar to Emma Stone! She was great at the different character intonations.
The book itself is good and entertaining in a very mild way. I wouldn’t say it kept my attention every time I listened but there were definitely a lot of sections where I continued listening even after I left my car (when I listen to audio vs physically reading).
