Excellent introduction to Medieval History!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This lecture series is an excellent introduction to the nuances of the Medieval World. The series is well detailed and interesting - enticing the listener to continue on to learn more about the progression of the Medieval World.

Which character – as performed by Professor Dorsey Armstrong – was your favorite?

The lecturer was easy to listen to. She made Medieval History, which could have been rather dry, come alive, allowing the listener to actually see, hear, smell, and feel the lives and environments of those living in Medieval times.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to have been able to listen to this lecture series in one sitting, but the length prevented this. I certainly would not have wanted the lecture to be shorter, and listening in more than one sitting allowed for better absorption of the material.

Any additional comments?

Professor Armstrong is a lecturer I will be looking for in future lecture series, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her bring the Medieval World come alive.

informative

Not as passionate Daileader's Early Middle Ages but very informative and well structured. I particularly enjoyed learning about the differences in health, marriage, and religion between people who lived in the Medieval world and now. I am reading historical fiction about Eleanor of Aquitaine, King Louis VII, and King Henry II. Learning a bit of the period in which they lived makes the historical fiction even more enjoyable.

Fun listen

I enjoyed listening to this but it was hard to get a chronology in my head . She skips around a lot to emphasize cultural phenomenon. Overall though she is an interesting teacher and it is an easy listen

Great synthesis!

A great series of lectures that explain in a simple and lively interpretation the key concepts of this too often mysterious period

Very interesting however the narrator was monotonous

I enjoyed learning from each of the chapters the information was excellent however the narrator has a monotonous style of emphasis which could be much more entertaining and captivating

Amazing and engaging!

I loved the entirety of this book. It provides a great overview of every aspect of the Middle Ages while entertaining you every step of the way.

This opened my mind to the medieval world!

This lecture series dispelled numerous misconceptions I had about the medieval world. Some of these misconceptions were perpetrated by movies and books. I really enjoyed learning about the medieval life, challenges, food, clothing, wars, etc. This was a delight.

Wonderful and well presented

This is the second course I have listened to by Dorsey Armstrong. She is insightful without giving so much information to overwhelm the listener. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking for well thought out lectures on the Medieval period. Broken down into easily digestible 30 minute lectures, each with its own topic that builds on the previous lecture.

YESSSS, BUY IT!

I loved this book! I would say this one has tidbits of all the Great Courses books I've listened to, instead of focusing on one area in the midieval world, it focuses on how it was in most of the world based on the ongoing research and ever faithfully evolving evidence that shows up daily almost from the Era. I am just fascinated by this Era of our world. Drawn in. Thanks to the great courses I've also begun to broaden my intelligence on world history as well as gained interest in finding out more. You can never stop learning and I intend to continue until my brain fails me. I love all these fact-filled adventures into the history of humankind ❤ For those interested in world studies and history as well as just interested in how the culture you live in came to be, but cannot afford to be a scholar in a school, I would recommend any of the Great Courses books on whatever they offer that you're interested in learning about because they cover absolutely everything.

Great overview of the time period

I thought this was a great overview of the Middle Ages and included some history prior to the Middle Ages that I found interesting. Fascinating stuff. Definitely recommend.
