Plymouth, 1941. As sirens blare all around, the Shawbrook family take refuge in a packed shelter. Bombs have already begun to fall through the night sky when they realize their infant son, Freddie, has been forgotten in the rush, left to sleep in his crib. Terrified, Vera, his young mother, races to find him and bring him to safety. The next morning, air-raid warden David Shawbrook returns from his watch to find the shelter pulverized, and his family seemingly all dead. Dirty footprints inside their home betray the looters who have rifled through the house.

Disappointed with the narrator,😞 she was difficult to listen to but as it was a sequel and I enjoyed first book I wanted to see what happened to adult Charlotte and loved the narrator to first book.

It went down hill about 1/2 way through
I had loved the book before this.
The first half or so was really good, though I could have done without the return of Harry Black.
Then once the Fox Hunt took place it really bottomed out.

HORRIBLE NARRATOR!!!!!!!!
It was difficult to listen to. The narrators voice sounded very much like a squeaky mouse! Her cadence was also too fast & sqeaky! I decreased the speed, hoping that would help... unfortunately it did NOT!
The narrator did a terrible disservice to the story & the author!

2nd book very good
The narrator was hard to listen to at first but once I got into the story she was quite good. Good second book, it left me wanting more. I totally recommend this book after listening to the first book. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. I didn’t think the title really fit but that’s not taking away from the story. Loved it loved it!

Fantastic finish!
For those who met Charlotte, Billy and their friends and family, this is a wonderful continuation of their stories. I laughed, cried - wept really - and celebrated right along with them. Well, written and worth the read!

Abrupt ending
Narration and story weren’t as good as the original in the series. Sequels rarely compare but the ending was just wrong. It seemed like the author had a deadline or a limited number of words and just neatly tied up all loose ends in 500 words.

Not as good as the 1st
I’m glad there was a second volume as I was curious what happened to the characters. However, this one wasn’t as exciting as the 1st volume. Also, the 1st volume narrator was excellent. However, this narrator was very difficult to listen too. I almost gave up on listening a few times, but my curiosity of how it would end outweighed.
