How the author tied all of the crimes together.
It was a little slow in places. I liked how it flowed for the most part.

Well written but depressing
The story was really well written with multiple, overlapping mysteries/ crimes to solve. A 30 year old cold case and a new murder which turns into several crimes. The mysteries and the way he puts the pieces together is excellent.
The personal side is depressing and hard for me to get through. He's lost his wife, he's grieving, he refuses help so he suffers. I also hate Nicholas Sparks books so if deep grief and the inability to move forward appeals to you, this book might appeal to you.
These do not seem to need to be read in order. Though the detectives are in the same unit as the first book, there is little interaction between them so you could read this without reading the first book.
Damon is excellent as always!

Overall good read
I enjoyed the police aspect of the storyline. Overall, I followed along with the storyline well. It was a good read.
