And he loves his humble circumspect Dat, although he isn't always pleased by how well Isaac sweeps the forebay in the barn. As anticipation for the Christmas program at the schoolhouse builds, Isaac cares for troubled Ruthie, who stutters miserably when she practices her poem. And he wonders how much he'll have to help his brother, Sim, act on his growing affection for Teacher Catherine!

A lovely story

Very enjoyable. The narration was superb. An unusual perspective - looking through the eyes of a young boy.

A child’s perspective

It was pretty non eventful and not particularly interesting. Not much depth or background to the story.

Narrator boring

The story was ok at best. The narrator was so , loveless, and monotone. That it was hard to stay engaged. It literally put me to sleep.

I loved the voice of a young person telling the tale. Reminiscent of Where the red fern grows from that standpoint but not in content.
Christmas recollections are often strong because of all past season s. that get brought out by traditions and customs.

Loved this Story

What a delightful tale of Amish life, having followed Isaac’a family through the Christmas season. Such a sweet story with a positive narration of a culture different than mine. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Not developed enough

Very bland and slow moving until the end and then everything popped into place suddenly. Could have used a lot more depth

A Child’s Perspective

It has been awhile since I read a story written from the eyes of a child. Great change of pace. This is a cute Christmas story as seen by a boy. The narrator does a good job telling the story.

What a fun, funny story line. The narrator was perfect for the script!

Disappointed in this story after reading others by Linda Byler...

Story was OK as it depicted Amish life well, but narration detracted...just monotonous and didn’t keep my interest. The story was sweet bu fell flat as compared to others.
