Leaving her anonymous gifts and notes, trying to recreate the sense of adventure she once shared with her late husband, Micah finds a new passion watching Laya come out of the darkness. And Laya finds a new joy in the experiences Micah has created for her. But for Laya, letting another man in still feels like a betrayal of her late husband. Even though Micah may be everything she could wish for, she wonders if she deserves to find happiness again.

Loved it

Renee Carlino is a great storyteller. Her books read quickly but the development of her characters brings you in and doesn't let go until the end. You feel as though the characters are your friends and you are traveling this journey with them.

I really wanted to like this

This book had so much going for it- good narration, a different story line, and the biggest surprise to me of all- it treated BASE jumping with respect. I’m a wingsuiter, my husband wingsuit BASE jumps, and every time I stumble on a book with a character who skydives or BASE jumps, it’s laughable or painful to read. Renee Carlino did her research and didn’t treat base jumpers like crazy one note adrenaline junkies.
This made me listen longer than I would have otherwise.. but it couldn’t redeem the book from everything else wrong with it. One of the worst parts- the “hero” stalks the main character (who is painfully grieving and drinking to deal with her grief), and he goes to a bar he knows she’ll be at. He finds her wasted and confused, and they have brief miserable emotionless semi-public sex. While he knows she’s drunk. This whole scene is awful, and he isn’t redeemable after this. Then he continues to stalk her! How he can be viewed as romantic or forgivable is just gross to me after his creepy behavior throughout the book. Couldn’t finish, I didn’t want to see her somehow end up with him after everything he did.
