Acerca de esta escucha
In 1850, following a divorce and a number of encounters with the law, Boone Helm headed "Out West" to chase the Californian Gold Rush with his cousin. When his cousin pulled out at the last minute, Helm was incensed, and brutally stabbed him to death. Helm was detained in an asylum for the mentally disturbed but managed to escape.
Helm continued his journey west with renewed vigour, where he opportunistically killed and consumed the flesh of adversaries and travelling companions, earning him the nickname "The Kentucky Cannibal". After several brutal months in the wilderness, he finally made it California. At a time where violence was the law of the land, Helm’s savage set of skills could finally be recognized and rewarded.
The Kentucky Cannibal is a riveting account of Boone Helm and his bloody exploits across the Wild West. Ryan Green’s entrancing narrative draws the listener into the real-live horror experienced by the victims and has all the elements of a classic thriller.
Caution: This book contains descriptive accounts of abuse and violence. If you are especially sensitive to this material, it might be advisable not to listen any further.

American Ripper is the true story of Gerard John Schaefer, a Florida law enforcement officer who was a prolific serial killer in the late 1960s early 1970s. The decade that was thought to be filled with love, peace, and happiness became a new dark age, breeding more serial killers than any other time in US history including Charles Manson, the Zodiac Killer, the Son of Sam, John Wayne Gacy, and Ted Bundy, who was held in the same prison as Schaefer and whom he both idolized and resented for the recognition his crimes brought him, a recognition Schaefer never received.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Lurking beneath the progressive activism and sex positivity in the 1970 to '80s, a dark undercurrent of violence rippled across the American landscape. With reported cases of sexual assault and homicide on the rise, the FBI created a specialized team - the “Mindhunters”, better known as the Behavioral Science Unit - to track down the country's most dangerous criminals. And yet narrowing down a seemingly infinite list of potential suspects seemed daunting at best and impossible at worst - until Dr. Ann Wolbert Burgess stepped on the scene.

Deadwood, 1876: a notorious little mining town in modern-day South Dakota that was a hive of criminal activity. Thieves, drunkards, prostitutes, and murderers ran rampant among its booming streets. There were over 300 murders in this town during the first year of its existence. When Wild Bill Hickok was brutally shot and killed at point-blank range in the back of the head, it was obvious that someone had to rise up and save the town of Deadwood from itself.

It is the last decade of the 19th century. The Wild West has been tamed and its fierce, independent and often violent larger-than-life figures – gun-toting wanderers, trappers, prospectors, Indian fighters, cowboys, and lawmen –are now victims of their own success. They are heroes who’ve outlived their usefulness.

In the gold rush era of Virginia City, Montana, crime was afoot and justice shaky. Lawlessness ran amok in the form of gamblers, saloonkeepers, miners, dance hall girls, and road agents - outlaws who ambushed travelers on the road for a chance to steal precious gold. Of all the road agents, Henry Plummer was their king and elected sheriff. Plummer’s notorious road-agent band terrorized the highways until a group of ordinary citizens resolved to take the responsibility of social governance into their hands.

In April 1944, Rudolf Vrba became one of the very first Jews to escape from Auschwitz and make his way to freedom—among only a tiny handful who ever pulled off that near-impossible feat. He did it to reveal the truth of the death camp to the world—and to warn the last Jews of Europe what fate awaited them. Against all odds, Vrba and his fellow escapee, Fred Wetzler, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, and narrowly missed German bullets until they had smuggled out the first full account of Auschwitz the world had ever seen.

From humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to his heroic death defending the Alamo, frontiersman, adventurer, and politician David Davy Crockett embodies the spirit and ideals of the national character. Even during his lifetime, tales of the sharpshooting, skilled woodsman were - to his delight - told, retold, and elaborated on. As a US congressman, the former Creek War militiaman steadfastly opposed President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - as leaders of the Wild Bunch, they planned and executed the most daring bank and train robberies of the day, with a professionalism never before seen by authorities. For several years at the end of the 1890s, the two friends, along with a revolving cast who made up their band of thieves, eluded local law enforcement and bounty hunters, all while stealing from the rich bankers and eastern railroad corporations who exploited western land. The close calls were many, but Butch and Sundance always managed to escape to rob again another day - that is, until they rode headlong into the 20th century.

Historia
Award-winning historian Michael Wallis has spent several years re-creating the rich, anecdotal saga of Billy the Kid (1859-1881), a deeply mythologized young man who became a legend in his own time and yet remains an enigma to this day. With the Gilded Age in full swing and the Industrial Revolution reshaping the American landscape, "the Kid", who was gunned down by Sheriff Pat Garrett in the New Mexico Territory at the age of 21, became a new breed of celebrity outlaw.

Historia
Most Australians have heard of the Boer War of 1899 to 1902 and of Harry 'Breaker' Morant, a figure who rivals Ned Kelly as an archetypal Australian folk hero. Born in England and emigrating to Queensland in 1883 in his early 20s, Morant was a charming but reckless man who established a reputation as a rider, polo player and writer. He submitted ballads to The Bulletin that were published under the name 'The Breaker' and counted Banjo Paterson as a friend.

A deeply divided nation. Vicious politics. A shamelessly partisan media. A president loathed by half the populace. Smuggling and gang warfare along the Mexican border. Armed citizens willing to stand their ground and take law into their own hands.... That was America in 1881. All those forces came to bear on the afternoon of October 26, when Doc Holliday and the Earp brothers faced off against the Clantons and the McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona. It should have been a simple misdemeanor arrest.

Omg! Best *climax* eva!
I've come to expect greatness from the Green/White duo (I have every one of their audiobooks so far) and they certainly did not let me down this time. It's magic every time they put out a new story. I can't really explain it but it's as if Mr. White was born to read Mr. Green's work. White's voice is Green's work come to life. It's a perfect union. Now, as for KC - this book has the most crazy "OMG!" climax moment. You will be thinking and talking about it for weeks! And that's ALL I'm going to say about it. Trust me, you want to listen to this audiobook.

The Kentucky Cannibal
Boone Helm was a very interesting killer to learn about. The descriptions of the killings are very detailed and gory, but I feel that they needed to be to get the full picture of just how savage Boone was. I can't say this is a book that all True Crime fans would love, but if you are not the squeamish type, it is a very interesting and enjoyable book.

The wild west at its worst...
The Commonwealth of Kentucky has contributed such legendary historical figures as Judge Roy Bean, Jim Bowie, Kit Carson, and Abraham Lincoln. Less venerable figures include contemporary serial killers Donald Harvey and Charles Manson but also a truly contemptible frontiersman, the subject of this book, Boone Helm. The heinous acts of this man earned him an absolutely grisly but tragically appropriate moniker, the Kentucky Cannibal.
The harsh reality of the American frontier, in truth, had little in common with the highly glamorized depictions favored by Hollywood. Hardships and misfortune plagued the settlers who had to be made of grit and sheer determination to survive. The lawless, the vicious, and the greedy were only part of the peril that confronted the intrepid frontiersmen. (Think less Little House on the Prairie and more Bone Tomahawk). It is against this rugged backdrop that a boy grew into a man of extreme violence and perverse proclivities. The life and misdeeds of Boone Helm are thoroughly explored in this book and the author, Ryan Green, provides his customary blend of meticulously researched background with his astute psychological insight to provide an exceptional and riveting account of one of America’s most reprehensible contributions to history. Once again, I must comment on the stellar performance of Steve White as the narrator. He always brings a story and the characters alive and is a joy to listen to. I highly recommend this audiobook to anyone with an interest in true crime, historically accurate westerns, and students of criminology and behavioral sciences.
I was provided with a copy of this audiobook by the author and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

Wild West Murderer
Another great true crime tale written by Ryan Green. Boone Helm was born in Kentucky, but carried out a crime spree across the American frontier in the late 1800's. In the days before instant news and media, it is hard to know how many serial killers might have been active in those times.
Mr. Green has a knack of writing about true crime that is different than a lot of books in this genre. He takes the facts and writes them in a way that makes the story come alive instead of just writing dry facts. As you read this book, you can almost hear, feel and smell the story in your mind.
If you are squeamish, this might not be the book for you. But, since it IS titled with the word "Cannibal", you have been warned! Some of the images from this story will stick with me for a long time.
The narrator, Steve White, does a great job and adds a lot to the listener's enjoyment. I hope that Mr. Green continues to write true crime books for a long time for those of us who can't get our fill of them!
