Acerca de esta escucha

The Hunter from the Woods marks the much-anticipated return of Michael Gallatin, the lycanthropic hero of Robert McCammon’s 1989 classic, The Wolf’s Hour. These all-new, interlinked stories offer a full measure of McCammon’s trademark narrative excitement, and comprise a fascinating composite portrait of a unique fictional creation.

The volume opens with a pair of brief glimpses into Michael’s early life in Russia and his initial recruitment into the British Secret Service. It ends with a haunting vision of the werewolf at twilight. In between, McCammon gives us three stellar novellas depicting different phases of Michael’s long, brutal war against Nazi Germany. "Sea Chase" is a nautical tale about the hazards of transporting a defecting German scientist to a place of sanctuary in England. "The Wolf and the Eagle" is the account of an unlikely friendship between rival "men of action" and a harrowing portrayal of a lethal forced march through the North African desert. "The Room at the Bottom of the Stairs" tells of an impossible, ultimately tragic love affair set in the embattled city of Berlin during the latter stages of the war.

Erotic, visceral, and filled with moments of desolating horror and unexpected warmth, The Hunter from the Woods is a triumph of imaginative storytelling. Like the best of McCammon’s earlier work, it offers intelligent, world-class entertainment. In the process, it shines a welcome new light on one of the most uncommon heroes in contemporary fiction.

Wow! This was a great book. I loved every novella and am hoping there will be more stories to come. The stories are gripping and the descriptions provided by the author make you feel that you are part of the story. I especially liked the story about Francesca and the last story. It remains that there could be more stories about this fantastic man/wolf and I hope they are published soon. If you like werewolf stories, you'll love this one but read the first book before you read this one so you will understand the significance of the mentions. The narrator is the voice of Michael and you will love every word. I'll be listening to this book again.

Michael Gallatin Is Superb

The Hunter from the Woods is a McCammon marvel. This second installment in his outstanding lycanthrope series displays his talent as a master storyteller and writer.
The book contains three novellas: an action packed battle between a British merchant ship and undercover German battleship; two enemies, one a British spy and the other an ace German pilot, must struggle together and survive in a scorching Egyptian desert without water – against a very capable and deadly enemy; the invasion of Russia’s Red Army and impending devastation of Berlin will soon end Hitler’s war machine, but sparks of love, treachery, and death ignite and blaze brightly in Michael’s heart as both he and the city around him are blown to pieces.
Simon Prebble’s narration is simply superb.
If you’ve read this review then you will indeed enjoy this book.

Three Outstanding Novellas

More fast-paced stories about the wolf I've come to enjoy, a bit more of the existential, then ironic, this time. Incredibly enjoyable, I cannot wait for the next!

Better, if possible!

This was the second time I had read/listened to this book. I enjoy almost everything Mr.McCammon writes. This book is one book that he could write a dozen more books but I don't think he wants to do as Jim Butcher or Michael Connelly have done with their characters. I think both authors would like to kill off their character if they could, they are so tired of the genre but their reading public refuses to let them go. Even so, I wish Mr. McCammon would write more about Michael Gallentine.
My only criticism comes regarding the last two stories in the book. I think that Michael was out of character in falling in love. The opposing character was not his type and he would have been much more accepting of his role than what was portrayed.
The last story ended as though he was tired or writing or tired of the story line. In either case it was a poor ending to an excellent book.
I still recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and drama.
The narrator was excellent. He convinced me that he was Michael Gallentine and the peril he was in. He brought the story to life.

Well worth your time
