Acerca de esta escucha

Cameron Winter was born with a "strange habit of mind"—the ability to recreate detailed crime scenes in his imagination and dissect the motives and encounters that produced them. And after reading a puzzling news story about a wealthy family killed in a small town in the Chicago suburbs, he can't resist the chance to apply this deductive power in the pursuit of justice for the victims.

Three members of the family, along with their live-in nanny, were pulled from their burning mansion, already dead from gunshot wounds. The only survivor is a young boy whose memory of the event raises more questions than answers. The police seem happy to settle on a simple explanation and arrest the most obvious suspect—but Winter knows that obvious solutions are seldom the correct ones.

While Winter's investigation is welcomed by many, the lead detective makes it clear he not only wants Winters to stop looking for answers, but to stay out of his town altogether. Winter begins to understand why as he slowly uncovers crimes and unsavory behavior that had been ignored long before the killings, and in the process grows increasingly determined to find the real killer and expose the rot beneath the town's sanitized façade. And as the inquiry brings all-too-familiar sins to the surface, he'll have to confront his own inner demons once and for all.

His work keeps getting better and better. The Cameron Winters series is his best. I finished this novel in 24 hours from the time that I downloaded it. I couldn’t stop listening.

Klavan’s best

Klavan has done it again! This is the third novel in the Cameron Winter series, and it’s the best one so far. No one can tell a story quite like Klavan. He’s truly the best mystery writer of this generation. Winter is a deep character indeed and in this novel the writer peels the layers back and gives us a look into his soul. I can’t wait to see what Klavan does with him next. Give this series a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent

Cameron Winter is an interesting and complex hero- absolutely worth the investment to read all three books. This was fun, exciting, and surprising.

Really a great story well

First of the series that I have read now I’ll have to go backwards and catch up on the first tooth

Couldn’t put it down. We’ll, I got it on audible so …

Love the storyline! The audio performance is excellent. Writing style is eloquent & not simple or shallow like most modern mysteries. The characters are genuinely human & relatable. Cameron Winter is a character whose past brings depth to the story. He’s not an obvious hero because he uses the present to overcome the scars of his past.

The dynamic between true romance & the modern idea of romance is subtle, yet profound. Klavan guides the reflective reader to consider the consequences of substituting the image of love for real & meaningful relationships.

The only complaint I have is that book #4 of the Cameron Winter series hasn’t been published yet. Klavan is getting up there in years, so hopefully God grants him time to continue the Cameron Winter story again & again!

God grant Klavan more time to give us great stories!

I very much enjoyed seeing Cameron Winter getting to some conclusions to his struggles and gaining some resolution. Also, the mystery of was fairly unpredictable. I had a million thoughts of how it would end and was fairly made up that it would be a In Cold Blood style ending of nearly random criminals. So I was surprised by how it ended. However, something was missing with Winter in this one. He seemed more timid or less tough or not as confident. I wonder if this was purposeful with his develop with Margaret or just how the story went. Either way, I very much enjoyed the story and look forward to another.

Nice Character Development, Interesting, but not as good as Strange Habit of Mind
