More than just a history.

This audiobook is a lot to take in. Just because it is 2 hours long does not mean that it is not a note worthy listen. If you have ever wanted to know the true origins and the background of hip-hop this is the book for you. The author, [author:Eric Reese|2776559] does more than tell you about mainstream hip-hop but breaks it down into sub sections. I enjoyed the fact that he mention certain forms of hip-hop that does not get as much recognition like gangster rap does. Being of Haitian descent I enjoyed the fact that he mentioned Haiti and what they do for hip-hop. Also there are a lot of people who enjoy K-Pop but did not realize that K or J-Pop was formed because of American Hip-Hop.

There were at times where the narrator, William Butler, sounded as a professor and not as someone who enjoyed what they were narrating. For that reason I had to give this audiobook a 4.5 and not a 5. It was well written and I learned a lot. The name of this book does not seem to with the content. However for me that was a good thing. This is so much more and I am glad this was written.

Interesting Hip hop book

The History of Hip Hop, by Eric Reese, narrated by William Butler.
This book is about hip-hop & music. It was interesting to listen to so many new facts about hip-hop. Eric did find a nice way to interpret the history of hip-hop. It provides many remarkable facts about music and history. The narrator also did a good job. Liked his performance. I would recommend it to people interested in music, looking for extra facts. It is about 2 hours long which is suitable to listen.

Informative...

An excellent, comprehensive history of hip - hop. It’s obvious that the author has a passion for hip - hop music . The narrator did a good job as well.

Music, Modern History, and Hip Hop Lovers Get This!!!

Wow! This is an amazing audible. Lots of great history on this subject. The author listed several important events. Even one from 1925! Every music, modern hIstory, and hip hop lovers need to listen to this. The narration is engaging. Get this!

Powerful

This was a great book for people who love hip-hop. Great history and wonderful information for the younger generation. The only downfall is that it read like sitting in a classroom. But great overall

Well performed but at one point reads "citation needed" as if copied from Wikipedia.

Large parts are more like lists of artists than any actual information

Horrible production - AVOID

The narration is atrocious, with the narrator mispronouncing words and names of well known artists. ("Cayenne West"?) The writing is scattershot and sheds no new light on hip hop as an art form.

Who is this book for? It doesn't give enough info to teach a layperson what hip hop is, and it breaks exactly zero new ground for hip hop heads. I was excited to listen to this and it's a crushing disappointment.
