They live in shadows - deep in the forest, late in the night, in the dark recesses of our minds. They're spoken of in stories and superstitions, relics of an unenlightened age, old wives' tales, passed down through generations. Yet no matter how wary and jaded we have become, as individuals or as a society, a part of us remains vulnerable to them: werewolves and wendigos, poltergeists and vampires, angry elves and vengeful spirits.

In 1966, 12-year-old Chanie Wenjack froze to death on the railway tracks after running away from residential school. An inquest was called, and four recommendations were made to prevent another tragedy. None of those recommendations were applied. More than a quarter of a century later, from 2000 to 2011, seven Indigenous high school students died in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The seven were hundreds of miles away from their families, forced to leave home and live in a foreign and unwelcoming city.

Historia
Imagine a town where the people perpetually live in the 1950s, a place where time has all but stopped and where everyone loves his family, job, and life. In this strange place, only a select few people ever leave the city limits and even then, they leave reluctantly. This is what fifteen and a half year old Benjamin Granault faces as, through a string of amazing events, he finds himself living in a town where he can never talk about modern technology or current events, a place where being an outsider can cost a person his life and being part of the community may very well cost more.

Finding Fish shows how, out of this unlikely mix of deprivation and hope, an artist was born.

At 23, Andrew Forsthoefel headed out the back door of his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with a backpack, an audio recorder, his copies of Whitman and Rilke, and a sign that read "Walking to Listen". He had just graduated from Middlebury College and was ready to begin his adult life, but he didn't know how. So he decided to take a cross-country quest for guidance, one where everyone he met would be his guide. In the year that followed, he faced an Appalachian winter and a Mojave summer. He met beasts inside: fear, loneliness, doubt.

What a great ending!
This was a good book I loved it so I guess it was great. I also love the alternative endings all of them. I let my 13-year-old daughter listen and she acted annoyed but once she started listening she kept listening. The next week could I buy her more books like this. LOL! I thought she was just trying to appease me, but then this morning she asked me again. I hope I can find more. The narrator poly Batson I thought did a great job you’re such a nice voice. So all in all it was a really great book.

Tough to follow decisions
This is a story not well suited for an audiobook.. Once a decision is made, the reader must go to a different chapter. Depending on the platform on which this is heard, that may not be easy.

Hoped it was more complex than it is...
I was curious about how a "choose your own ending" would work in an audiobook.
In this case it's simple because each short story has only 2 options and the chapters are next to each other in sequence so we can simply listen to both endings one after the other.
One is usually shorter than the other giving away the one that should be the write choice...
The short stories are nice enough but I like stories to have more complex plots and choices.
It's a cool intro for children if any parent decide to pick scary stories to read their children. ;)
This is not the first book I've listen from this author and he does a good work with his very characteristic voice.

Not Bad
This is a collection of two ghost stories in which you can decide which ending will happen. I love decide your own ending stories or endless quest stories. However, depending on which program you use to listen to this book, it's not exactly the best type of story to make audible. The stories themselves are cute short ghost stories. Well written and more for young adults and teens than for adults but I found myself enjoying them as well. The narration was off to me. Where Dr Ibbetson is an excellent author, his narrating skills need work. I felt his voice was a bit too high pitched and upbeat for this type of audio. I think it would've been better had he hired someone to narrate for him instead of doing it himself. That's not to say it's bad but could've been so much better.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

not really scary
The stories and format of choose the ending are likely better for a younger audience and better in written form because in audible you cannot choose. My daughter enjoyed these type of books during grade school years. Paul does a nice job narrating.

The Ghost Mystery Collection review
I enjoyed this. It was different, unique, and was reminded of the Choose Your Own Adventures, the way it was set up, not a bad thing.
