Acerca de esta escucha

Diney Costeloe's wonderful new best seller is set in 19th-century France.

As the St Clair family prepare for the wedding of their daughter, Clarice, at the great country house of Montmichel, trouble is brewing. Their younger daughter, Helene, became friends with orphaned Annette during the terrible events of the 1871 siege of Paris.

Now they are reunited, with Annette working below stairs for Helene's parents. But Annette is hiding a dangerous secret, which Helene has promised to keep at all costs. Meanwhile, Helene herself has begun to fall in love with a young nobleman from England, whose family has plans which do not include their son choosing a French wife.

It took me a while

It's rare to see five stars in your favorite genre, so I hung in there, and I am very pleased with this book. I eventually couldn't wait to get back to it. I'm looking forward to more by Diney Costeloe. An excellent author. My only wish is that the French characters or spoke it would do so with a French accent. The narrator

Sweet and suspenseful.

Loved the growth of the main character. Also liked that there was an element of suspense.

Another brilliant read!

Diney Costeloe captured my heart(and broke it💔) with The Throwaway Children. Since then, I have been enjoying her other stories though none come close to the aforementioned title.

I was delighted to learn of a follow up to Children of The Siege, and listened to The French Wife as soon as I could. It did not disappoint. It’s about love and loss, family, expectations, and resilience. Though set in a different era, the themes ring true to modern times, and have me questioning if the progression of courtship should not have changed so much, might we be less lonely…???
