A defining New York City institution co-founded by Norman Mailer, The Village Voice was the first newspaper to cover hip-hop, the avant-garde art scene, and Off-Broadway with gravitas. It reported on the AIDS crisis with urgency and seriousness when other papers dismissed it as a gay disease. In 1979, the Voice’s Wayne Barrett uncovered Donald Trump as a corrupt con artist before anyone else was paying attention. It invented new forms of criticism and storytelling and revolutionized journalism, spawning hundreds of copycats.

It wasn't because the band didn't have great songs—indeed, the Trees were revered for their ability to write a great song that was both artistically original and commercially viable, which is no easy task. Other Seattle bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden were fans of the Screaming Trees, playing shows with them and collaborating on albums, long before their own bands broke through into the mainstream.

Fantastic book. However The female narrator sounded like she was reading it for the first time as they recorded it. Truly weird delivery, disconnected from the words.

Fascinating
This is a must for all journalists and reporters. It is amazing how this book shares different perspectives on what it was like to get the story, to get the source, and how journalism and printed media have gone through everything in these last 50 years. Great experience

Excellent content and structure, but …
Ms. Perrin’s slow pace and her failure of appropriate intra sentence timing and emphasis, among other issues with her reading, betrayed an obvious lack of preparation.
