Joni ‘Webb’ Webber has spent the last fifteen years in the service of Earth. Currently a senior technician aboard the starship Independence, she has been tasked with keeping one of the most important ships in the fleet operational by any means necessary… so long as it doesn’t affect the bottom line or inconvenience a commanding officer. She was just a red shirt after all. Regulations might not specify that a red shirt’s life is worth any less than an officer’s, but at the end of the day regulations are just words on a screen while orders are orders.
Still, despite the turnover rate of a red shirt, it’s a better life than being one of the Unassigned or one of the mechanical human-like cogs. Excellent narration!!!
I don't usually like Sci-Fi but this was a pleasure to listen to. The different characters came alive with the different voices used (but the very talented narrator).

Amazing!
Spoiler Free review!
This was one of the best sci-fi books I've ever listened to. I bought this on a whim as I've enjoyed other media this writer has created. I read a lot of books and I like to believe I am savvy to foreshadowing but I was caught off guard by almost every twist this joyride of a novel provided.
It has a competent and self confident protagonist and an antagonist you will love to hate. I loathed the villain of this story on a level of contempt held for characters such as DS9's Kai Wynn, Nurse Rachet (both acted by the talented Louise Fletcher) and Harry Potter's Dolores Umbridge.
The setting takes a homage of Star Trek TOS and turns it on its head. From the eye rolling Shatner trope of a captain to the no nonsense chief of engineering, you feel the obvious nod to original Star trek. When the first trouble happens though, you immediately change gears that this story is not what you thought. The few story points I would personally critique would spoil parts of the story and I will not diminish your enjoyment of this gem of a sci-fi adventure
I cannot recommend this enough. I finished this audiobook and immediately purchased the paperback from Amazon. I also wish to credit an excellent performance to the voice actor Brian Lewis as his work was well paced and his accents and inflection of drama superb.

Great adventure
This was a great book. Full of twists and turns and humor. Kept you wondering how she would survive, if she would survive.

excellent writing
I love this homage too a non-utopian trek-like future and Brian S Lewis really captures the crew's spirit with his narration
