Acerca de esta escucha

An Irish rogue and a duke’s daughter should have nothing in common except trouble....

Though enchanted by the selfless beauty of a duke’s granddaughter, Michael - a man of many names but none his own - has wisely kept his distance. But two years after the disastrous fire that brought Lady Blanche Perceval into his life, he is saddled with a lost, lying Irish waif and needs a woman’s understanding aid. To his dismay, the generous lady he remembers now despises him for deserting her when she needed him most.

Blanche has inherited all the wealth and responsibility of a dukedom, even if it is her cousin who wears the title. Forced to rely on her men of business to help her make decisions since she has no experience or knowledge of her own, she is at constant odds with the new duke who wishes to marry her for the sake of the estate.

When the irresistible and unreliable Michael O’Toole materializes in her life to enlist her care for another of the abandoned orphans he’s rescued - as he once did for her - Blanche doesn’t know whether to kill him or kiss him. After terrorists blow up her carriage, it becomes apparent that running away might be the best choice of all - but can they survive the pitfalls of their impossible attraction?

Reseñas editoriales

Talk about star crossed lovers! Romeo and Juliet have nothing on Michael O'Toole and Lady Blanche Perceval, two strong-willed characters who find themselves at odds - and perhaps in love. Roger Clark gives a wonderful performance of Patricia Rice's novel about love and class in feudal Europe. Clark excels particularly in giving voice to Lady Blanche, a brilliant but sadly powerless woman, who finds herself at the mercy of the men surrounding her. Clark's tone is sharp yet sexy, making her the perfect actor for a fast-paced romance such as this.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Finally, Michael O’Toole! I’ve been waiting for his story ever since I read Patricia Rice’s The Marquess years ago. Michael and his delicious duke’s granddaughter demonstrate why bad boys are best!" (Mary Jo Putney)

However, as far as trashing Americans for not keeping up with bloodlines, well, there are many reasons our ancestors concentrated on other matters. We can start with the fact that the majority of immigrants leave their country seeking a better life based on impoverishment, religious persecution, crime, adventure and a plethora of other reasons. Most of them were struggling to establish a new life in an evolving country where most people did and still do not give a shi*t about titles. Why should we keep up with something that has little meaning to us? If the Brits were so concerned about bloodlines/titles, maybe they should have sent officials over to record it.

I don't mean to sound Anglophobic. Belief in that old adage of stones/glass houses would prevent that fault. For example, while we may not look down on the nouveau riche as much as Brits are accused of, we Americans have the tendency to worship the rich. Look at the stupidity of electing a reality star to the office the presidency who inherited his wealth, cheated on his three wives (after all, if one can cheat on his family three times, I would doubt the ability to be loyal to country) and had no political experience. No, I acknowledge that Britain AND America shows our collective *sses as much as the next country. And we should have an office entitled "Secretary of Criticism". I could run for it!

In conclusion, I also think the narrator did an excellent job. I look forward to reading more of the author's work in the future!

Entertaining story with good narration!

Loved this story and the way the author brings to light issues that many of us have experienced at one time or another. Through her characters, she shows that even though things may not work out as planned, that when there is a will, there is a way. You just have to look a little harder and have faith. Excellent book! 😍

And the plot thickens

This was a great book of heas!! There was just a small villain part, thank heaven! The romance and relationships were the most of the book which is why I read them. Even though the sex scenes were descriptive they weren't graphic. Just a really great book.
There were a few mispronunciations but they didn't distract. The narration was very good!

Really loved the characters

I guess we all knew that Michael's story would be the best. So far, it has been my favorite Rice novel. I laughed, I cried. Not your typical cookie cutter story. Well worth the listen!
