Listen to it because: it's a typically sideways look at the mighty Adeptus Astartes (albeit a pretty unusual chapter), viewing them through the eyes of the wry and dry Commissar Cain.

The story: Commissar Cain is called to duty once more, saving a governor's daughter from a planet overrun by rebels. The uprising hides something far more sinister however - genestealer hybrids! The search for the source of the alien threat leads Cain to a drifting space hulk - a far safer place than beside the obsessed governor's daughter. But when the Reclamator Space Marines suffer devastating losses at the hands of the Great Devourer, Cain and his trusty aide Jurgen must go it alone. With the tyranids waking and a group of stow away orks on the loose, there are no safe places to run or hide, and Cain must use all his ingenuity and cunning to escape the space hulk alive.

Best Cain book thus far

Seriously loved this one. the interactions with Cain and other characters was excellent, still miss commissar Dolan though :(

Continue being a fantastic experience

if you have made it this far then it more of whant you loved about the other audio books in the series

Absolutely bonkers. Good writing, good voice over, pure bonkers story. It is abasolutely worth a listen.

I love, love love the Ciaphas Cain Books! My favorites among warhammer other than like a couple more niche books like Imperial Glory

Typical Cain

As good as many Cain novels. There is light humor among the grim backdrop of 40k. Nothing world changing for Cain or the Imperium, but an entertaining story none the less.

As good as I've come to expect

Mitchell's Cain series is excellent, of course - but then, having read all the books in paper form, that comes as no surprise.

It's similarly unsurprising that the Perring/Rawlins team is on form; their performances cemented themselves right from the first book, and frankly I have difficulty imagining other readers as those characters. The additional readers are similarly ideal for the characters, just as those brought on for previous books, and Spooner's Scottish accent in particular just feels right for the character.

All in all, it's exactly what you'd expect. There's action, there's military politicking, there's a quirky romance of sorts, and of course the series' trademark sense of humour runs through the whole thing.

The Cain books have become instant purchases for me; as soon as I see them come out, I get them; I know they'll never disappoint me.

Another excellent Ciaphus Cain novel.

A Spacehulk, genestealers,Orks, and a even more deadly woman. Cain is going to need the Space Marine backup.
