Acerca de esta escucha

Connor Fitzgerald is the CIA’s most deadly assassin. On the brink of his retirement, he is sent to Russia for one last hit. Except this isn’t just another job. After a fall out between the CIA and the White House over the assassination of a prominent Colombian politician, his boss is now using the Russian Mafia to cover her tracks.

Fitzgerald is not going to St Petersburg to kill, he’s going to die.

A page-turning, political thriller about espionage and betrayal by the acclaimed British writer, Jeffrey Archer.

The Eleventh Commandment is narrated by Michael Brandon, most famous for playing James Dempsey in the 1980’s television crime drama, Dempsey and Makepeace. His extensive theatre career spans Broadway and the West End, where he played Jerry Springer in Jerry Springer: the Opera for the National Theatre.

Jeffrey Archer is a bestselling British author and former politician. He was educated at Oxford and went on to become a Member of Parliament, the deputy chair of the Conservative Party as well as sitting in the House of Lords. His political career ended in scandal and he turned to writing, where he has been published in over 250 countries.

He is perhaps most famous for the Clifton Chronicles and his blockbuster Kane and Abel which was number one on the New York Time’s Bestseller list and inspired a popular miniseries starring Peter Strauss and Sam Neill.

After he was imprisoned for perjury in 2001, he wrote his highly acclaimed non-fiction series, Prison Diaries - Hell, Purgatory and Heaven - which were inspired by his experiences and loosely structured around Dante’s Inferno.

Narrator is good

Narrator Michael Brandon is good but doesn’t come close to Paul Hecht who narrated The Eleventh Commandment released several years ago by Audio Books.

Another great story

I’ll just say the plot twists and turns till the very end. This particular novel I think would have been better read than listened to. Lots of characters to keep straight in your head. One that needs listening to each and every day. Appreciated the little love story in there too.

Captivating

Excellent, noble, thrilling, good guys triumph, CIA, too much power is corrupting. Love wins out.

excellent narration

the charachters were worth rooting for. although the ending was a little predictable, there were enough twists and turns to keep me entertained.

Great story, poor narration.

This story had me on the edge of my seat. I love Jeffrey Archer's work but if you're British you need an American editor for a story line based on American people & lives. Americans don't use the word "torch" for flashlight nor would we call a toiletries bag a "sponge" bag. The worst thing was the narrator. it was the same voice throughout and his personal accent kept coming through. When attempts were made at accents they were pretty bad. BUT I would never pass up on an Archer novel. His story craft is just TOO GOOD!

Rarely Ever Return a Book

So disappointed because Jeffrey Archer is one of my favorite writers. I suffered through the narration for about an hour or so, and then just couldn't take it anymore. Regardless of the character, the narrators voice changed hardly at all. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. I gave the story a 4 star rating because it was good as far as I was able to get.

meh.

Though the performance itself was good, the plot was almost completely phoned in. Important information is missing at multiple points while at others the story becomes far too predictable.

Not Archer’s best

I’m one of Archer’s biggest fans, and this just wasn’t up to his typical standards. Perhaps it was the exceptionally bad narrator, who ruined another of Archer’s books, but I think it really was the poor plot, which somehow was both galloping and plodding simultaneously. Too much suspension of disbelief was required to make this book work, and that would have been fine if there had just been better character development. All in all, this was just a disappointment.

This is why I don’t read mysteries.

This story was recommended to me, so it isn’t something I would have chosen for myself. I know there are great mystery novels and this is not it.

The story was fine, if you enjoy a book version of looking at your friend’s wedding photos. The twists are only twists because the author hides information from the reader, which I find annoying.

The most obnoxious part was listening to the performance and desperately wanting the reader to spit the wad of saliva out of his mouth.
