Having returned to Herouxville, capital of Vestonia, Max Renard has found himself drawn into the dangerous game of courtly intrigue.
King Carl III is ill and weakened by his wounds. This leads to tensions between the various princely parties at court. The struggle for influence inside the country is spilling over onto a whole new level. Carl III's foreign enemies are taking advantage of his weakness and ramping up their pressure.
The stakes are high, and Max has to find a delicate balance between his own personal interests and those of the powerful people in this new world. He'll have to use all the cunning and mastery at his disposal if he's going to raise his own profile and stay alive at the same time.

Miles “Shrug” Lindstrom received a quest years ago. He was the only person who could see the window, and in addition to the quest, he could also see a countdown to the end of the world. Part of him was hoping that he was just insane and had been hallucinating when he first started seeing the window. Then again, if the quest was just his imagination, he was going to be massively in debt with a rental full of useless junk. But when the countdown finally stops, what happens is nothing like he could have imagined.

Stuff happens

well made story and telling of it
the storyline has some great build up and really captures you. A lot of great hints are put into the work it really makes you pay attention to the bigger pictures sometimes as well.

Another great book in the series.
Great story and narrator. I wish they were longer though. Keep them coming, and I will keep listening.

a true hidden gem
love this series.... love the world and magic in it... the only thing I don't like is trying to remember who is who due to the French names and accent but as conversations progress not hard to figure whonis who

The most entertaining yet in my opinion
A lot happened in this book. I really wish they were about twice as long but for 9ish hrs it was VERY interesting

Another impressive book
As this series goes on, it just becomes better and more convoluted. It is an excellent story about intrigue and powerful conflict. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

VERY NICE!!
Interesting book, and a compeling story so far. Seems like old grudges have been settled and now the mc is moving on the next series of events. Im looking foward to the next book.

Brilliant
This series is so much fun to read/listen to. Max is savage in the way he manipulate the nobles and events. I love this series and can’t wait to see what he does next.
