Fun, light and great chemistry

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, the plot was good. The characters were fun. They had good chemistry.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I liked it and it made perfect sense.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I thought she made the female character and really most of the females sound whiny.

Could you see The Devil in Denim being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

yes, it would make a fun series. The heroine could be played by Rachel Adams and the hero Christ Pratt

A HALF n HALF LIGHT ROMANCE

This is an easy-going, feel-good contemporary romance and yes, it has an unbelievable 'as if' storyline but, for me, this is fiction so all's forgiven, there's an easy humorous banter between the H/H as they constantly clash heads that'll make you smile and there were a few sensual sex scenes.

However, the heroine did sometimes come across as a spoilt woman not getting what she wanted..... to be C.E.O. but she acted more like a kid who didn't get her own way. Also, IMHO, there was too much inner dialogue and my pet peeve of too many "he said", "she said", "Alex said", "Mal said", "Lucas asked" "Maggie suggested"...... even when it was just scenes between the H/H which was totally unnecessary as the narrator did a good job with the M/F voices and they could each be easily recognized.

Worth the credit? Sometimes an enjoyable and entertaining story is all you want, yes there was a drama that put everyone on high alert, but it was mainly an easy-going listen with some negatives. Just a three star listen tho and I certainly won't be asking for my credit back but sorry I can't recommend whether you should use a credit I'm afraid.... it's up to you on this one.

Enjoyed, But With a Few Issues

Would you consider the audio edition of The Devil in Denim to be better than the print version?

I haven't read a print copy so I don't know.

Would you recommend The Devil in Denim to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes and no.
As a sports romance, it would have some appeal to a few friends who are really into baseball, but the background of the story not being about baseball itself or its players having a large role wouldn't appeal as much to the larger group.

What about Eileen Stevens’s performance did you like?

I liked some of her voices, but not all. I will say that I liked the way she made each character's voice distinguishable. Pacing of the story was slow though I'm not sure that was on her or just the pacing of the book itself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sports Owner's Daughter Faced With New Reality.

I really struggled with the heroine, Maggie. At first, I understood her issues entirely, but then after that she made me very impatient. She couldn't get past stuff when it came to her dad's deal and she tended to hamster wheel it in her relationship with Alex. To describe her, she's self-important and not self-aware and that bugged me a lot. She got better, but for most of the book it was a real push to keep on listening to her whining and going back over the same ground in her mind.

Bad odds

Loved the way Alex and Maggie couldn't stay away from each other. They kept being drawn together.

Not a Fan

Admittedly, I am not a sports fan. The only reason I even got the book was because it got such good reviews and I thought it would be good for me to expand my horizons. The sports part of the book was fine but the characters were not. The heroine was lacking in confidence and sass. The hero was too in control, too bossy, too perfect and too sure of himself and of his ability to woo the girl. I stopped listening to it when I realized I could care less about the characters and their lack luster romance.

Too Much Drama, No Baseball

When I purchased Devil in Denim, I was expecting a story involving baseball. What I got was a silly, immature drama about dysfunctional families and friends.

I couldn't relate to Maggie, who was angry when her father sold the baseball team she had hoped to manage one day. However, Maggie wasn't mad at her father but rather Alex, the young entrepreneur who bought the team.

Although I love baseball, I found the story dragged. There were funny moments and snappy dialogue but I just didn't care about any of the characters and how everything would end.

ps. The entire book happened during the off season, so there were no games or much about the players.
