Acerca de esta escucha

"She was his now, and he was hers. She’d never been more sure of anything in her entire life."

Sultry Savannah is where we lay our scene, from a time that once, but never was. Two households, both alike in dignity, collide in the chaos of civil unrest igniting a forbidden romance between a pair of star-crossed lovers.

Seventeen-year-old automaton, Sephony Roulette, is beautiful and headstrong. Against her will, she's been betrothed to an ambitious politician desperate for her father's money. Sephony would rather die than marry him and her mechanical heart breaks to set her free.

Marcus Wexhaven is called in to use his micro-cogs to repair Sephony's damaged heart. When she wakes in his arms, the fiery passion between them cannot be denied. To prove to their feuding families their love is worth celebration, Sephony and Marcus work in secrecy to unravel a vicious political plot. When Sephony finds herself on the receiving end of a hideous crime, it's Marcus who comes to the rescue, again.

He is willing to fight to protect her, even if that means his own death. Sephony is far too proud to let Marcus die alone. For never was a story of more darkness than of Sephony and her Marcus.

Love story with twists

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved it. I listened to the audiobook and at first, I wasn't too sure of the narrator, Denise Ratcliffe, but I ended up really enjoying her. The storyline was entertaining. Sephony, betrothed to a man she despised, tried everything to get out of the marriage proposal when she meets Marcus, a sworn enemy to her family. The story has many twists and turns and was very entertaining. Based in the early 1900's, is hard to fathom how women were treated and how men could have their way with them without fault. Reed wrote with depth and was able to draw me into the story. I highly recommend this book. It was extremely entertaining, and if you get a chance to listen to the audiobook, I think you will enjoy it just as much.

A Steampunk Slant to a Shakespearean Story

I enjoyed this steampunk re-imaging of the tale of Romeo & Juliet written by William Shakespeare. This was my first experience with this author's work, and it was captivating. I admired the worldbuilding and how it contributed to the plot of the story. I was touched by the romance that bloomed between Sephony Roulette and Marcus Wexhaven, and I enjoyed how the action kept this story moving forward. I thought Denise Ratcliffe's narration was fine, and her southern accent helped to bring the characters to life. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which included my honest opinions regarding this story.
