As a fan of the Saga of the Seven Suns, this has been on my playlist for a long while. I am glad I finally came around to listen to it. Kevin Anderson does a great job in building a universe full of elemental, primordial and mysterious creatures without taking away from the human element.
Not all characters, new or returning, are equally interesting, however. But the bigger conflicts more than make up for the slow parts of the story. I hope the characters featured in the slower parts of the story have a more interesting role in the rest of this trilogy. Regardless, I am definitely going to buy the remaining two books as soon as they are available.

Truly a great read
The saga of seven Suns is truly an a amazing book series. I can't possibly say enough about them. I just hope they keep coming.

Great Book (from a non-fan of the genre)
What a wonderful surprise to listen to! I bought this on a whim not expecting much but never once regretted it. The descriptions are rich and vibrant allowing me to picture things not of this universe. I thought the narrator did a splendid job voicing the characters. I'd even be interested in listening to the sequel.

Great addition to the Saga
If you missing The Saga of the Seven Suns series, then this is the place to look to get that fix.
The only thing I thought was off about the book, the ending seemed a little bit rushed for some reason.
Other than that I would listen to it over and over again just like the other books in the series.

Sucker for space sci-fi
I am so happy to be back in this universe! Saga was an amazing series. To have some of the same loved characters here and then be introduced to new ones is awesome. The threat they now face is inventive. KJA is just fantastic at development. I can listen to his books over and over. Definitely pick this up!

Boring & Slow
Reminded me of a soap opera with too many characters with personal problems. It was not what I expected after reading the .... Saga of Seven Suns. Its almost like the editor wrote this one, or could have. I understand that there is a certain amount of set up that is necessary, but this was a bit much. I do like Mr. Boyett.

Great story
I really enjoyed this book. It had great order and was very easy to keep up with the characters. I will buy the next book.

A fascinating story
I love the universe created by the author. it is slow in developing, but the ending brings everything nicely together. it is great first book of a series as it ties things up while also leaving many questions for future books.
