Action packed but left me dangling from a cliff

This book starts with a ton of action and a young girl, Kaevra, running for her life with her older sister. She has no idea why she is running but she trusts her sister and father's decision to run.

As she gets older, she still has no idea why they keep moving from one village to another. She feels like she is being followed and watched, and that's when it happens. She is confronted by someone who wants to take her. Faced with the confrontation, she uses magic for the first time. Her magic is wild and untamed. They get away but Kaevra is ultimately captured.

Taken to the queen, she is pushed and trained. The queen wants a weapon. One with the kind of power and magic she possesses.

This book was a wild ride but SUCH A SLOW BURN!!! I was honestly waiting for the tension to break, then LCB decided to leave me on a cliffhanger! 😂

This book gets a solid 4.5⭐️ from me! The storyline was great and I'm honestly waiting the next book because I gotta know what happens next.

As for spice, it's a slow burn so only 1🌶 as the boldest move was for her to get out the tub facing him... modesty is a thing for Kaevra so that was a bold move on her part.

The performance was 3.5⭐️ Maybe it was a 'me' thing though but the narration felt like it sped up in certain places and slowed down in others.

While I do know this happens because of excitement and the build to something explosive-I usually tend to listen to audiobooks on 1.4x or 1.5x speed and this one felt like he was rapping at 1.1x in some places so I listened to this one at a normal speed-it just felt like the narrator was trying to get everything out in one breath in some places or was more rushed than he should have been.
