In the first installment of The Riftborn Chronicles, The Chronos Engine, Lyra, a historian-turned-guardian, uncovers the truth behind the Rift—a cataclysmic event tearing apart the world. The ancient Raan Empire had attempted to harness the power of the Chronos Engine, a machine capable of manipulating time and space, but it led to their destruction.
As Lyra investigates, haunted by visions of twisted dimensions, she learns that her trusted AI companion, Valen, was once human—a Guardian whose mind was trapped in a failed experiment to cheat death. Together with her ally Ezran, they journey to the heart of the Rift, battling creatures from other dimensions.
In a dramatic finale, Valen sacrifices himself to stabilize the Chronos Engine and close the Rift. Yet, the threat may not be over, and Lyra is left to face her own mysterious connection to the Rift and the greater dangers that await.
The Chronos Engine sets the stage for an epic journey across worlds where the very fabric of reality itself is at stake. The stakes are high, and the journey is fraught with danger and uncertainty.
