Acerca de esta escucha

Lincoln Rhyme is back, on the trail of a killer whose weapon of choice cripples New York City with fear.

The weapon is invisible and omnipresent. Without it, modern society grinds to a halt. It is electricity. The killer harnesses and steers huge arc flashes with voltage so high and heat so searing that steel melts and his victims are set afire.

When the first explosion occurs in broad daylight, reducing a city bus to a pile of molten, shrapnel-riddled metal, officials fear terrorism. Rhyme, a world-class forensic criminologist known for his successful apprehension of the most devious criminals, is immediately tapped for the investigation. Long a quadriplegic, he assembles NYPD detective Amelia Sachs and officer Ron Pulaski as his eyes, ears and legs on crime sites, and FBI agent Fred Dellray as his undercover man on the street. As the attacks continue across the city at a sickening pace, and terrifying demand letters begin appearing, the team works desperately against time and with maddeningly little forensic evidence to try to find the killer. Or is it killers?

Meanwhile, Rhyme is consulting on another high-profile investigation in Mexico with a most coveted quarry in his crosshairs: the hired killer known as the Watchmaker, one of the few criminals to have eluded Rhymes net.

Juggling two massive investigations against a cruel ticking clock takes a toll on Rhymes health. Soon Rhyme is fighting on yet another front - and his determination to work despite his physical limitations threatens to drive away his closest allies when he needs them most.

Lincoln Rhyme at his best!

What did you love best about The Burning Wire?

I like the Rhyme series. This one had a great plot, and a lot of action.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rhyme's lieutenant. I think he learned a lot in this experience.

Have you listened to any of Dennis Boutsikaris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes. Great as always.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the hotel was attacked by the bad guy. For a moment I was wondering if this could actually happen...

Any additional comments?

Great story, and great action. I don't think these things could actually happen but it makes a great plot.

Surprise Endind

Worth hanging on to the end. The entire crew is there working as one to solve a baffling crime; it doesn’t disappoint.

Another Great Lincoln Rhyme Mystery

Jeffrey Deaver writes great detective novels and this one is no exception. If you enjoy real puzzles as you read, Deaver doesn't disappoint. Rhyme, a paraplegic, uses forensic science to solve complex mysteries and of course, the "other" stories in the text are very engaging, due to the well developed characters Deaver offers his readers.

The whole Lincoln Rhyme series is great. . .this is an especially good one.

Great Read.

I love how the voice didn't drone on and on. The plot and twists were excellent.

Been there, done that

Perhaps if this was your first Lincoln Rhyme novel to read, you might not be disappointed, but then again you might not catch all of the character references--particularly given that he is (no spoiler) chasing an old nemesis while starting on a new case. But, if you've read one or two, you seem to have read them all. I am so sad to say this, because I love other surprising books (The Coffin Dancer, Devil's Teardrop) by Deaver. It seems the formula now is: (spoiler alert)
1. crime scene
2. remind us what "the grid" is
3. pile up the evidence
4. have someone we least suspect jump out of nowhere to be the suspect
5. have that same person somehow break into Rhyme's place and try to kill him
6. have Rhyme contemplate some sort of risky surgery to lessen his disability
7. peek into secondary characters' lives just enough to get us confused as to who they are

(spoiler alert) Is it just me, or did they just completely decide that Gault wasn't the killer without any real evidence suggesting otherwise. Of course, knowing the Deaver formula by now I knew it wasn't him. And the only evidence I had were previous Deaver novels. Say it ain't so--let's have some non-formulaic "mysteries" in the future.

Another Lincoln Rhyme banger!

Good story. It has the usual twists and turn expected in a Rhyme and Sachs story. If you have read all the books this far and liked them this is another banger.

hang in til the 2nd part

If you're into technical stuff about how electricity works, you'll enjoy the first part of this book. If not, be prepared. It wasn't until the 2nd part that I really started enjoying it like the previous Lincoln Rhyme stories. Eventually it was worth the credit, but I had a hard time hanging in there.
