Couldn’t put it down

Incredible performances, and Stephen’s vampires are such a special kind of dark and grotesque. This story broke my heart, disgusted me, excited me, and I found myself late to meetings just to listen to it for a little bit longer. Definitely my new favorite among his works.

Can’t say enough good things about this listen. Story and narrators were excellent. Can’t wait to see what’s next from SGJ!

What a wonderful take on a vampire story. The underlying messages of religion and colonization… so good… 10 out of 10

A brilliant novel with an outstanding production

I loved every little detail about this story, and the audio production kicks it up a notch. I cannot recommend this audiobook enough.

Beautifully Written Horror

In this beautifully written horror novel you get multiple genres for the price of 1. You get Native American mythology, a fresh take on the vampire, a Western, an Epistolary, a thriller, and at its core, pure Horror. Mr. Jones has taken one of America's darkest chapters and deftly demonstrated its true monstrous nature in a way that borders on satire. And he's done this while still delivering a story that compels the reader with a plotline that is difficult to disengage from when the reading must be done for the day. I can't say enough good things about this book. I enjoyed it much in the same way that I enjoyed Seth Grahame-Smith's "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter." As for the narration, I enjoyed it mostly. Owen Teale's Welsh accent muddied a few words but overall his actor's instincts really made Arthur's character come alive for me. Marin Ireland was good too. But Shane Ghostkeeper?...perfection.

well written, well narrarated, just over all perfect. now I just wish I could wipe my mind of it's existence and read it again for the first time

SGJ blows readers away again again

There's nothing quite so exquisitely wonderful as discovering there's a new book available by Stephen Graham Jones!
Whether it's serial killers, werewolves, slasher movies, elk-headed women, or vampires SGJ writes with such obvious admiration & affection for all horror genres that the authenticity on each page can be felt in your bones. Pair with that his ability to describe the most stomach-churningly vivid details in the most poignantly beautiful, nearly effulgent language- like a fatal car crash in HD slow motion- and you can understand why he never disappoints.
This story is no exception, plus it's about vampires.

Great horror book

Loved the twists and learning the different names for animals. Lots of suspense and not knowing what’s going to happen next.

Another interesting twist on vampire stories.

This is one of those “slow burns”. I enjoyed it. Pays out a little throughout the book rather than one big payout at the end.

the narrators did great

It was a good story with awesome narrator in my opinion. it was just a but hard to follow some times, and trying to figure out some of the Native terminology sometimes took me a bit to figure out or remember, but all in all it was very good.
