I disliked the narrator’s voice.
The author generalized/stereotyped the Gentiles living in his village. He considered all of them lazy, worthless, etc.

Defending Peace and Happiness

Thank you to Limor Regev and Moshe Kessler for having the courage to share this story with the world. I understand, so much better now, the hatred and love of mankind. I hope that more and more people will continue to do all they can to share peace and choose joy.

What a travesty of such reading for a story that deserves so much more in the telling

Why is it that for such a well-written, moving, historical novel could you not find a narrator who would at least pronounce the names, places, and other Jewish practices correctly? Who there decided that this reader was appropriate for this book?

I think this narrator’s reading might work well for other vehicles— but not this one. He is meant for other genres, I think. His narration lacks too much depth or feeling for the subject matter.

This story is not simply a list of facts to be read. It is far more. This narrator missed the mark for this book completely.

How I would love to hear it again with a different voice.

Better Understanding

I am 65 yrs old. My mother is Jewish. This book helped me to better understand why the state of Israel is so important to the Jewish people. Never again will they be physically removed from their homes because of their religion.

Review from a child’s perspective.

The author took us back through his life and the narrator conveyed the emotions excellently of the author. Glad I got this book as it was also on my Amazon wish list for the actual book, this was way better.
