Acerca de esta escucha

I don't play by the rules . . . until her.

Maisie: I'm tired of being scared, but fear is like a constant companion these days. Some big blue alien stole the last of my friends, and now I'm alone as a prisoner on a spaceship on my way back to the planet that stole everything from me.

I thought I'd seen the last of the blue aliens, until suddenly I'm staring into the eyes of one as he gets ready to fire a laser right into the cockpit where I sit. And at this point in my life, I'm thinking this might be the best way to go.

Maddic: I'm minding my own business when an enemy aircraft tries to shoot me out of the sky. Of course I'm going to retaliate, and as I line up my final shot, something from inside the enemy's cockpit catches my eye-the face of a terrified human female.

Now I'm trying to save both of us from hurtling to the ground and going splat. I figure that's my most difficult task yet. I don't factor in learning that this human is my mate, and if I don't get her to trust me, we're never getting home.

Contains mature themes.

Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Maisie - she was kidnapped from her home by aliens, brought to a facility on the planet called Torin and experimented on by a race of aliens called the Kruul. All of the other females she was held with ended up with some kind of ability, but she doesn’t know if she has one or if it just hasn’t manifested yet. They escaped their captors and ended up on a nearby planet called Corin, where they were again abducted and separated. She ended up seeing her friend Lu fall from the sky with a big blue alien. She is nearly ready to give up on life.

The Hero: Maddic - He is a bit of a wisecracking, happy-go-lucky Drexonian outcast. One day while flying around on his cruiser, he is fired upon by another ship and when he is about to blow it away, he sees a tiny human female on the bridge of the other spacecraft. He decides on the spot that he has to save her. Maddic has a great outlook on his life, and he isn’t ashamed of being a son of nought. His mother didn’t believe in the laws, and she made sure he had great self esteem and had all the experiences of a regular Drixonian.

The Story: Maisie and Maddic end up in a ruined cruiser on Torin with no way to return to Corin. Maisie was afraid of Maddic because the last she had seen of her friend Lu was when a big blue alien like him took her and they were pushed from the ship by one of the aliens that had taken them. It was a bit before Maddic was able to get close enough to Maisie to update her translator so he could tell her he meant her no harm.

I liked this story, because Maddic was so laid back and such a happy guy and Maisie was so fearful at the beginning because she had been mistreated by every alien she had encountered to that point. Maisie got braver as the story progressed. Maddic’s attitude wore off on Maddie and he wouldn’t let her stay meek and afraid. He built her up so that she saw herself in a new light.

I love how Maisie’s journey isn’t just about survival but also about reclaiming her sense of self. The contrast between her fear and Maddic’s easygoing nature makes for such a compelling dynamic—he’s exactly the kind of character who challenges his counterpart to grow.

This audiobook was told in multiple perspectives, done in dual narration and was narrated by Reagan West and Gabriel Mcknight. Reagan West has a terrific voice which I like very much. She is great at showing emotions through her voice. Gabriel Mcknight has a soft voice and is great at doing different voices for different characters.

Narration was fantastic as always. They did a great job bringing the personalities of the characters on page. I am excited to see where the other two books left in this series take us. Especially with only one more human to find

Maisie and Maddic
