3) The Peace Party Massacre
Kidnapped! An honorable man has gone missing, and his wife is not in the least helpful. The sheriff dithers, and every day brings death closer to a reality.
4) The Curse of the Mad Sheik

5) The Captain's Play
Captain Barnwell, a longtime honorary member of the Agora Society, presents to the members a solved case one clue at a time. Three suspects. One murderer. Who is the murderer and why?

Historia
Francis Bacon is charged with investigating the murder of a fellow barrister at Gray's Inn. He recruits his unwanted protégé Thomas Clarady to do the tiresome legwork. The son of a privateer, Clarady will do anything to climb the Elizabethan social ladder. Bacon's powerful uncle, Lord Burghley, suspects Catholic conspirators of the crime, but other motives quickly emerge. Rival barristers contend for the murdered man's legal honors and wealthy clients. Highly-placed courtiers are implicated as the investigation reaches from Whitehall to the London streets. Bacon does the thinking; Clarady does the fencing. Everyone has something up his pinked and padded sleeve. Even the brilliant Francis Bacon is at a loss - and in danger - until he sees through the disguises of the season of Misrule.

Historia
First appearing in print in 1890, the character of Sherlock Holmes has now become synonymous worldwide with the concept of a super sleuth. His creator, Conan Doyle, imbued his detective hero with intellectual power, acute observational abilities, a penchant for deductive reasoning and a highly educated use of forensic skills. Indeed, Doyle created the first fictional private detective who used what we now recognize as modern scientific investigative techniques.

A charming period mystery!
Wow, I am so impressed that the author also narrated this book because he performed it so perfectly that it’s clear he’s an extremely gifted artist in both writing & performing. If you are an Agatha Christie fan (Poirot) you will adore this series. You get 5 stories in this collection & the most charming part of it is that it’s being told by a senior who is re-living stories of his youth as part of the Agora Society. Each story is its own capsule story & is well rounded and jam packed full of intrigue and fun! If you enjoy period stories & mystery then you are in for a real treat with this series! I received this book and gave my honest review.

An enjoyable read
My first read from author Clay Boutwell. I'd gotten this Kindle book a year ago & never got around to reading it, but upon acquiring the Audible edition and being able to read along with the excellent narration I read it. Reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes with voice inflections reminiscent of Sean Connery this was a well-written, thoroughly enjoyable read! Perhaps even better than the first Agora Mystery was my second read from author Clay Boutwell. I'd gotten this Kindle book back in September of last year & never got around to reading it, but upon acquiring the Audible edition and being able to read along with the excellent narration I read it. Reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes with voice inflections reminiscent of Sean Connery this was a well-written, thoroughly enjoyable read!

An interesting collection of period mysteries
The Agora Letters are an interesting collection of period mysteries taking place in the US in the late 1800s. The stories should appeal to fans of Sherlock Holmes and similar mysteries.
The author does a good job narrating his book.

Gorgeous Mysteries
Listening to these stories is a fantastic experience. You can almost feel as though you have traveled back in time, and Carl Brooke himself is telling you his stories. The storytelling is simply fantastic, both from the writing of the stories themselves, and from the author narrating his own brilliant works.

This is a collection of five short mysteries. Each mystery is a stand-alone and kept my interest throughout.
The author, Clay Boutwell, did a nice job with the writing as well as the narrating. I look forward to reading future volumes of The Agora Letters.
