Great Sherlock Holmes mystery

I enjoyed this Sherlock Holmes mystery. It is well written.

The narration was great too.

I would read more books by this author and listen to books by this narrator.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Wonderful Sherlock Holmes Stories

The Adventure of the Coal-Tar Derivative by Steven Phillip Jones is a very good set of Sherlock Holmes short stories. The narrative performance by Michael Langan is great as well. I enjoyed the audiobook very much.

Nothing is what you think it is

Sherlock Homes in various personas , along with Doctor Watson attempt to get answers in various cases. Sometimes Homes is disguised and many times the case may be disguised to look normal.

Very, very good

Even when I began this with a bit of distrust (yeah, it was the 'Moriarities' on the title, sue me!) I soon was deeply engrossed in the stories.

I enjoyed this approach to what could have happened during the Great Hiatus, and found the mysteries really interesting. Having Watson working with Lestrade and Mycroft is a wonderful plus. Yes, I have a weakness for stories that have Watson working with Lestrade during the hiatus; give me that to me, and you'll have my heart :D

And I truly enjoyed Michael Langan's narration.

So, yes, a recommended read for those who never can have enough of these characters :P

A complex group of tales

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection.
Some were quite fun whilst others are complex and deep.
Beautifully narrated.
A very good read.

More than a bit confusing

This was a series of interconnected stories that were a novel, of sorts, but it took me quite some time to twig to that fact. The opening made no sense until I was perhaps two thirds of the way through. The adventures were interesting, and focused on The Great Interregnum, the years Holmes was “away.”

One thing that I found by turns interesting and infuriating was the not infrequent shifting of the POV character. It was handled relatively adroitly by the reader, and his vocal choices for each character kept them reasonably distinct.

However, I continue to be disappointed in narrators of (pseudo) Victorian stories who simply don’t have a sufficient vocabulary to correctly read and pronounce the words. Please, dear narrator, if you come across a word that you don’t use on fairly frequent basis, LOOK IT UP!!! Sounding words out doesn’t work for unusual or eclectic words.

Still and all, I generally enjoyed it, and I hope you will too.
