Acerca de esta escucha

Eduard Schwermann is an old man seeking sanctuary at Larkwood Priory in Suffolk. Agnes Aubret is a woman whose life is running out; she has just been diagnosed with terminal motor neuron disease. It's time, Agnes feels, to tell her granddaughter, Lucy, the secrets she has carried for the past 50 years.

During the 1940s, while living in Occupied Paris, Agnes was a member of a small resistance group called the Round Table that risked their lives to smuggle Jewish children to safety (until they were exposed by a young SS officer named Eduard Schwermann).

Agnes's story merges with Schwermann's in this powerful debut novel, which moves seamlessly back-and-forth in time. What Agnes doesn't know is the personal investment Schwermann had in the Round Table, the silent bargains made by its members, and the true extent of Schwermann's final treachery.

Exploring the legacies of history and the way time changes memory, The Sixth Lamentation keeps one thinking and guessing until its astonishing conclusion.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"...storytelling at its finest.... Even in the smallest moments, Broderick's writing is beautiful" (Publishers Weekly)

I listened to the entire book...too convoluted and wordy...NO excitement; my suggestion SKIP this book

Boring

This book is so beautifully and skillfully written. The characters are amazingly developed but nothing is what it seems. As beautiful as it is fun. You'll need to listen twice.

So many twists and turns

The story is elaborate and has many twists and turns, especially at the end.

I regret to say, I got lost long before then. The players were not distinct to me. So I could not follow who did what to whom and when.

I suspect that part of the reason is that I was not reading the book itself. If I had, perhaps the names would have registered more clearly to me.

Also, I listened in short bursts. This contributed to my confusion, I believe.

Perhaps I should read it again for comprehension.

Je regret . . .

It appears some of the those leaving reviews here are to put it as nicely as I can. " under-challenged". 1) If you have any interest in the holocaust 2) Can LISTEN and have the ability to FOCUS on what you read. 3) Appreciate a book that will give you twists and turns that you never see coming. Then this well written, heart rending book is for you. JUST READ IT The icing on the cake and the main draw was having Sir. Graeme Malcolm narrate this beautiful book.

JUST READ IT
